2012 Wimbledon Championship: Americans Start Undefeated In Singles Play On Tuesday

The first day of the 2012 Championships at Wimbledon was not a good one for the United States of America as two of the country's top tennis athletes, John Isner and Venus Williams, saw early departures from the Grand Slam tournament. However, the Americans redeemed themselves with a strong showing on Tuesday, including a dominant performance from Venus's sister Serena.

Serena Williams easily handled Barbora Zahlavova Strycova in straight sets, dropping only six games to the Russian. Also winning on Tuesday were four other Americans: Mardy Fish, Jesse Levine, Brian Baker and Christina McHale.

McHale just escaped Johanna Konta of Australian following a rain delay with a third set victory that required 18 games to decide a winner.

Headlining the remaining Americans yet to play on Tuesday is Andy Roddick, the tournament's 30th seeded in men's singles play, who is set to face Jamie Baker.
