Seven players from qualifying play at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Maryland, have been invited to play in the 2012 US Open. Shane Bertsch, a 42-year-old from Colorado, finished atop the leader board, and he'll be making his first -- and second-ever -- US Open appearance since 1998.
At the Washington Post, Barry Svrluga has the other six participants who earned spots in 2012 Open:
Michael Thompson, a PGA Tour regular whose last appearance at Olympic was a loss in the final of the 2007 U.S. Amateur, was next at 2 under. "I've had this one circled on my calendar for a long time," he said. Five players tied at 1 under - Paul Claxton of Georgia, Cole Howard of Texas, Darron Stiles of North Carolina, Curl and Nicholas Thompson, the older brother of LPGA teen star Lexi Thompson.
The 2012 US Open will be played at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, California. Play begins on June 14 and extends through June 17.
