2012 Walter Camp Award Watch List: Virginia Tech's Logan Thomas And Maryland's Joe Vellano Nominated

Another college football postseason award watch list was published on Friday. This time its the Walter Camp Award watch list. The Walter Camp awared is for the national player of the year as voted on by division one head coaches and sports information directors.

Virginia Tech Hokies quarterback Logan Thomas was one of 50 players nominated to that list. In 2011, Thomas threw for 3,013 yards and 19 touchdowns. He completed close to 60 percent of his passes. He was also a threat on the ground, rushing for 469 yards and 11 touchdowns in helping the Hokies reach the Sugar Bowl.

Maryland Terrapins defensive tackle Joe Vellano was on that list as well. Vellano, also on the Nagurski and Outland lists, was all-ACC and was second-team all-American in 2011. He started all 12 games at Maryland last season and had four where he recorded double digit tackles.

2012 Doak Walker Award Watch List: Navy's Gee Gee Greene Nominated

Navy Midshipmen running back Gee Gee Greene is one of 52 candidates on the 2012 Doak Walker Award preseason watch list. The award is given to the best running back in college football at the conclusion of every season, and Greene is expected to rack up a high volume of touches in Navy's run-heavy option offense.

In 2011, Greene rushed for 501 yards on 64 carries, both good for third on the team. With seniors Kriss Proctor and Alexander Teich gone, Greene should see more carries in 2012.

Montee Ball of Wisconsin returns to school after leading the nation in both rushing yards and scoring in 2011, and is one of the big favorites to win the award. South Carolina's Marcus Lattimore will be a contender as well if he can stay healthy, along with Nebraska's Rex Burkhead and Arkansas' Knile Davis. Trent Richardson, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, won last year's award.

2012 Davey O'Brien Award: Virginia Tech QB Logan Thomas On Watch List

The Davey O'Brien Award Watch List was announced on Wednesday out of Fort Worth, TX and Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas is on that list. It features features 34 of the nation's best college quarterbacks who were selected based on player performance during the previous year and expectations heading into the 2012 college football season. Of course, one doesn't have to be on the Watch List to win the award.

Seven 2011 semifinalists are included on the Watch List: Matt Barkley (USC), Tajh Boyd (Clemson), Seth Doege (Texas Tech), Landry Jones (Oklahoma), Keith Price (Washington), Denard Robinson (Michigan) and Tyler Wilson (Arkansas).

The Foundation and the Selection Committee will announce three finalists on Monday, Nov. 19. The 2012 Davey O'Brien Winner will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, Dec. 6, the press release said.

2012 Biletnikoff Award Watch List: Virginia Tech Wideout Among 48 Named To List

Virginia Tech wide receiver Marcus Davis has been named to the preseason watch list for the Biletnikoff Award, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc. announced on Tuesday.

Named after Fred Biletnikoff, the award annually honors college football's most outstanding receiver. The foundation will announce 10 semifinalists on Nov. 12, before narrowing the list down to three finalists on Nov. 19. A winner will be unveiled as part of the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show on Dec. 6.

Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon was a recipient of the the award last season.

Davis, a rising senior, appeared in 14 games for the Hokies in 2011, starting eight of them, where he caught 30 passes for 510 yards and five touchdowns. He averaged a team-best 17 yards per reception in helping lead Virginia Tech to an appearance in the Sugar Bowl.

2012 Rotary Lombardi Watch List: 6 Local College Players Named To List

The rapid fire of college football award watch lists continues to come out, now with the Rotary Lombardi award. This award is given to the best lineman or linebacker each year. To be eligible for the the award the player must be a lineman, a defensive end that doesn't line up any further than 10 yards to the left or the right of the ball, or a linebacker that lines up no more than five yards away from the line of scrimmage.

Maryland Terrapins defensive tackle Joe Vellano was named to the list. The 6'2", 285 pound lineman recorded 54 total tackles with 7.5 for loss. Vellano also recorded 2.5 sacks last season.

The Virginia Cavaliers had three players named to the list, including offensive tackle Oday Aboushi, linebacker Steve Greer and offensive tackle Morgan Moses.

The Virginia Tech Hokies had two players named to the list, including defensive end James Gayle and linebacker Bruce Taylor.

2012 Butkus Award Watch List: Howard's Keith Pough Among Players Spotlighted

The watch list for the 2012 Butkus Award, the award for the best linebacker in college football, has been announced. Along with the various finalists from the big schools, there is one name that DC college football fans should keep an eye on. Howard Bison linebacker Keith Pough is one of the many players on this watch list.

Pough, a 6'3", 235 pound linebacker recorded 71 solo tackles last season, along with 120 total. He also recorded 3.5 sacks, although that was down from 10 sacks the year before.

Other local players on the watch list include Maryland Terrapins linebacker Kenny Tate, the 6'4", 220 pound backer who played only four games last season before suffering a season-ending knee injury. He recorded 35 total tackles and intercepted two passes.

Virginia Tech Hokies linebacker Bruce Taylor was also named to the watch list. The 6'2", 243 pound defender missed the last four games, including the 2012 Sugar Bowl, due to injury, but recorded 53 total tackles and five sacks and also hurried the quarterback 16 times.

2012 Outland Trophy Watch List: Maryland, Virginia, and Virginia Tech Represented

Both of the Virginia Cavaliers' starting offensive tackles are represented on the 2012 Outland Trophy watch list, which consists of 71 total players. Oday Aboushi and Morgan Moses both made the watch list for the award that's handed out at the end of the season to the best lineman in the country, offensive or defensive.

Last year's winner was Alabama's Barrett Jones, who returned to school and will have a chance to become the second player to ever win the trophy in back-to-back years. He's made the transition from offensive tackle to center for the 2012 season.

Virginia Tech center Andrew Miller made the watch list, along with Maryland defensive tackle Joe Vellano.

Virginia, Virginia Tech And Maryland Boast Nagurski Watch List Candidates

Four D.C.-area college football defenders have been named to the watch list of the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, awarded to the nation's best defensive player (a category occupied by other awards, but none with quite such a spectacular name). Virginia Tech has two candidates - cornerback Kyle Fuller and linebacker Bruce Taylor, along with Virginia linebacker Steve Greer and Maryland defensive tackle Joe Vellano.

Fuller is a junior cornerback with 18.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions and 4.5 sacks in his career at Tech. Taylor is a redshirt senior with 150 total tackles and 11 sacks in his career. Greer is a redshirt senior and team captain who has led the Cavaliers in tackles in 2009 and '11. Vellano is a redshirt senior with 7.5 sacks and 18 tackles for a loss in his career.

Of the area teams, Virginia Tech has one previous Nagurski winner, linebacker Corey Moore in 1999.

Virginia Tech, West Virginia Centers Make Rimington Trophy Watch List

Two D.C. area centers - Virginia Tech's Andrew Miller and West Virginia's Joe Madsen - were named as part of the watch list for the annual Rimington Trophy, given at the end of each college football season to the game's best center.

Miller is a redshirt junior and the lone returning starter to the V Tech offensive line in 2012. He started all 14 games last year, playing 900 snaps at center and didn't miss a start despite multiple injuries.

Madsen is a redshirt senior who has started every game of his career, and returns in 2012 with one of the most veteran offensive lines in college football.

Both schools have featured Rimington Trophy winners since the award's inception in 2000, with the Hokies' Jake Grove winning in 2003, and WVU's Dan Mozes winning in 2006.
