British Open 2012: Brandt Snedeker Surges To Lead With 64 In Second Round

After shooting a 66 in day one of competition, Brandt Snedeker trailed only Zach Johnson among Americans and was in a tie for the fourth spot in the tournament. But with a 64 in the second day of play, a tie for the best score by any player thus far this tournament, Snedeker has jumped out to a sizable lead.

His 130 through two rounds is 10 under par while the second best scores in the tournament are held by both Adam Scott and Paul Laurie, who are each six strokes under par.

Things haven't been as lucky for another American, though, as Phil Mickelson is all but eliminated from play thus far. Mickelson struggled in day one, shooting a 73 and finishing three over par, but his play was even worse on Friday when he shot a 78 to send himself into a tie for 146th best spot on the leaderboard.
