Ian Desmond is headed to the DL with an oblique tear.
Despite the win on Sunday, the Washington Nationals received a bit of a blow when the team announced that shortstop Ian Desmond is headed to the disabled list with a torn oblique.
Reports are that Desmond will receive a brief period of rest before going back to resuming baseball activities.
As for who will replace Desmond on the 25-man roster, James Wagner of The Washington Post is reporting that the Nationals are replacing him with Corey Brown from Triple-A Syracuse. Brown is hitting .300 with 21 HRs and 58 RBIs in 94 games.
Desmond's time in which he will be sidelined is unknown, however Mark Zuckerman of CSN Washington speculates that it could be a while before he returns to the lineup.
