2012 London Olympics: Local D.C.-Area Athletes In Qualifying Rowing Action On Saturday

The first full day of competition at the 2012 London Olympics saw several local area athletes compete early on Saturday in qualifying rowing action, on both the men's and women's side.

Washington, D.C. native David Banks and Peru-born Giuseppe Lanzone of Annandale, VA are members of the U.S. men's eight team, which finished as the top qualifier in heat 1 of the men's Rowing eight heats with a time of 5:30.72 at Eton Dorney in London.

Silver Spring-born Natalie Dell is a member of the U.S. women's quadruple scull team, who placed second in their Saturday heat to powerhouse Germany. Dell and her teammates next race on Monday, with a chance to advance to the Olympic final.
