While basketball fans are mainly focused on the debut of Team USA Men's Basketball on Sunday at the 2012 London Olympic Games, two players with ties to the D.C.-area have already played and concluded their early Sunday contests.
Washington Wizards center Nene helped his native Brazil defeat Australia in Group B preliminary play, chipping in eight points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Fellow NBA player Leandro Barbosa led the way for Brazil with 16 points.
Even earlier Sunday morning in Group A competition (the same Group as the U.S.), former George Mason University guard Tony Skinn, playing for Nigeria, scored seven points and three assists in a 60-56 win over Tunisia. He was, however, just two of 11 from the free throw line on Sunday.
