72 holes wasn't enough to decide the 2012 Greenbrier Clasic, as Ted Potter Jr. defeated Troy Kelly on the third playoff hole.

Although it wasn't the names many expected to be involved, the 2012 Greenbrier Classic had an exciting conclusion, as Ted Potter Jr. defeated Troy Kelly on the third sudden-death playoff hole.
Both Potter Jr. and Kelly entered the day off of the lead, however a collapse down the stretch opened the door for both of them. Potter Jr. shot a six-under on his final 18 including an eagle-birdie finish on the last two holes to force a playoff with Kelly who was four-under on the day.
The two each shot par on the first hole, and then on the second playoff hole, Potter Jr. appeared to have the championship wrapped up before Kelly hit a 20-foot par to force a third playoff. On the 75th hole of the competition for the two, Potter Jr. was finally able to claim the title.

The leaders are half way done with their final rounds at the 2012 Greenbrier Classic, and Webb Simpson still holds a slim lead over the field with a score of 15-under through 10 holes. Simpson has been holding steady all afternoon, as he is shooting one-under par on Sunday.
Right behind him is Troy Kelly at 14-under who has also completed 10 holes and is two-under par for the day. Daniel Summerhays finished his round at 13-under after a very impressive score of six-under on the day. He will need help, which can only come from collapses from Simpson and Kelly down the stretch.
Robert Castro shot the low round of the day so far at seven-under, however he appears to have come up short as he is sitting in the clubhouse four strokes behind the leaders.

And Webb Simpson is atop the leaderboard at the Greenbrier Classic. After shooting a five-under-par 65 during the third round on Saturday, the U.S. Open champ carries a two-stroke lead heading into Sundays final round at the Greenbrier Resort's Old White TPC Course in White Sulphur Springs, W. Va.
Trailing Simpson is Troy Kelly, who shot a eight-under-par 62. Charlie Beljan, Ken Duke and J.B. Holmes were tied for third with 11-under. Beljan finished with a 67, Holmes had a 66 and Duke checked in with a 65.
One week removed from a win at the AT&T National, Tiger Woods remains out of the picture for the remainder of this weekend after missing the cut on Friday -- just the ninth time in his PGA career that he has done so.

After Todd Kelly got hot and took over the top of the leaderboard, Webb Simpson, who led after round two, stormed back to retake the lead and now sits atop the leaderboard at 14-under par.
Simpson shot a five-under, 65 on Sunday which was enough to take over the top spot even though Kelly shout an eight-under, 62 in round three.
Simpson only made five birdies on the day, including just one on the front nine, but made his move on the final six holes of the back-nine by making birdie on four of the last six holes.
Other golfers of note who are also in contention heading into Sunday's final round include Ken Duke, Charlie Beljan and J.B. Holmes who are all tied for third at 11-under par.

Troy Kelly started the day strong at four-under par through his first six holes in the third round of the 2012 Greenbrier Classic. He continued his remarkable play through the final twelve holes and as a result, has moved atop the leaderboard at 12-under par.
Kelly shot an eight-under par on Saturday and is now two strokes ahead of Webb Simpson who started the day at the top of the leaderboard and nine-under par but now finds himself tied for second place with Ken Duke, Charlie Beljan and Ted Potter, Jr.
Kelly's lead may not be safe as Simpson, Duke, Beljan and Potter Jr. have all yet to finish the back nine, but Kelly has done what he's supposed to do which is put himself in position to win on Sunday.

The third round of the 2012 Greenbriar Classic is underway and so far Troy Kelly, the nine-year pro from Tacoma, Wa., is moving up the leaderboard.
Through six holes, Kelly is currently in second place behind the leader, Webb Simpson. Kelly is tied for second place with five other golfers (Jonathan Byrd, Charlie Beljan, Jeff Maggert, Jerry Kelly, Martin Flores) and is currently six-under par on the day behind Simpson who holds the lead at nine-under par.
Kelly has birdied on four of the six holes he's played thus far. The rest of the field will tee off later today but it seems that Kelly is making a strong push to put himself in position to win in the tournament's final round on Sunday.

The 2012 Greenbrier Classic continues on Saturday, albeit a bit delayed due to some inclement weather on Friday. Play was suspended due to darkness before the second round could conclude, meaning 12 golfers need to complete their round Saturday morning before the third round can begin. Those twelve players will hit the course beginning at 8:30am, with the third round to begin as soon as they finish.
Two big names won't be playing in the third round at Greenbrier, as Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson both missed the cut at the same tournament for the first time since 1993.
Webb Simpson currently sits atop the leaderboard at 9-under par, after shooting a 4-under 66 on Friday. Charlie Beljan blitzed the course on Friday to the tune of an 8-under 62, and sits in second place.
Television coverage of Saturday's action will begin at 3:00 p.m. EST on CBS.

The second round of the Greenbrier Classic has been suspended until Saturday, due to inclement weather, according to multiple reports. The weather had been an obstacle for golfers for much of the day, with play being suspended for two hours earlier Friday. Webb Simpson, the 2012 U.S. Open winner, is currently in the lead at 9-under par through the tournament and 4-under for the day.
Interesting notes on this one: a couple of marquee names missed the cut, and the weather likely had something to do with it. Neither Phil Mickelson nor Tiger Woods will return to action on Saturday, with both missing the cut.
Five golfers are tied for second place, all just a stroke behind Simpson at 8-under par. Charlie Beljan was having the best round on Friday, despite the weather, going 8-under par for the day, which is also his tournament score.

After a rain delay of two hours, golfers have retaken the course at The Greenbrier to complete the second round of The Greenbrier Classic.
The two golfers tied for the lead at eight-under, Jonathan Byrd and Charlie Beijan had completed their rounds before the delay, however the three golfers tied one stroke behind them, J.B. Holmes, Jeff Maggert and Jerry Kelly had their rounds interrupted by the storms. They have resumed play, hoping to catch the leaders.
The projected cut for the tournament is one-under, which means that Tiger Woods is in danger of missing the cut. He is at two-over par with eight holes to go so he will need to rally if he wants to play this weekend. Phil Mickelson also has finished his second round at two-over and has all but been eliminated from the tournament.

A name that fans are not that familiar with has surged to earn the lead at the Greenbrier Classic at The Old White TPC in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Charlie Beljan has flown up the leaderboard, shooting eight-under through 14 holes to pass Vijay Singh and Jonathan Byrd.
Beljan shot an even par 70 in the first round and was tied for 60th in the standings. He has used eight birdies, including six in eight holes to springboard up the standings. Byrd, after shooting a six-under 64 in the first round, has shot one-under through 16 holes in the second round.
Singh is set to tee off at 1 p.m. this afternoon and Tiger Woods, who shot a one-over 71 in the first round is set to tee off at 1:20 p.m.

Following a one under par performance on Thursday, Billy Mayfair was back in 41st on the leaderboard at The Greenbrier Classic. But with four consecutive birdies early on his scorecard on Friday, Mayfair surged up to a tie for fifth.
Now leading Mayfair and the rest of the field is fellow American Jonathan Byrd. After scoring a 64 in the first day of competition at the tournament, Byrd ended the day in a three-way tie for second behind Vijay Singh. Two birdies early on Friday earned Byrd the top spot at the tournament, though.
A subsequent bogey on the 8th hole dropped Byrd back to a tie with Singh who has yet to start. Singh is scheduled to tee off at 1 p.m.

The second round of the 2012 Greenbrier Classic gets underway bright and early on Friday morning in West Virginia. The first round on Thursday yielded plenty of red numbers as the Old White Course is wont to do -- Stuart Appleby fired a 59, the fifth ever on Tour, during the inaugural 2010 event. But Greenbrier owner, and savior, Jim Justice has toughened the classic track up in conduction with the Tour. The veteran Vijay Singh holds a one-shot lead after carding a 7-under 63 on Thursday. Singh went low in the morning on Thursday so he will not tee off until 1 p.m. ET on Friday.
Golf Channel will carry its customary broadcast of the second round, but with an extended hour on the end, running from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. ET. The afternoon groups will feature plenty of starpower for the broadcast, particularly the 1:20 p.m. ET pairing. Tiger Woods, Webb Simpson, and Steve Stricker are set to go off on No. 1 at that time and will have the back side of their round featured during the coverage. Coming off his win at Congressional, Woods struggled with his putter on Thursday and shot a mediocre 1-over 71. Simpson is just two shots back of Singh and is 5-under. Vijay Singh stole the day at the Greenbrier Classic, but there are a number of great players not far behind him after one round of play at The Old White Course. Singh birdied his final four holes and posted an extremely impressive 30 on the back nine for a score of 7-under on the day, which has him alone in first place.
Jeff Maggert, Martin Flores and Jonathan Byrd all trail Singh by one stroke at 6-under par. Webb Simpson headlines the group at 5-under par, while K.J. Choi lurks at 4-under.
Most of golf's biggest names are either in Europe or taking the week off in preparation for the British Open, but there are a couple of huge names at the Greenbrier, and they're not faring too well. Both Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are 1-over par after the first round, and are in serious danger of missing the cut if they don't put together very good rounds on Friday.

Vijay Singh, who has not won a PGA Tour event since the Deutsche Bank Championship in September 2008, currently has a one stroke lead after his first round at the Greenbrier Classic at The Old White TPC in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
Singh made his biggest move on the back nine, hitting six birdies including four in a row to finish the round. He is one stroke ahead of Americans Jeff Maggert and Martin Flores.
Tiger Woods, who won last week's AT&T National at Congressional Country Club did not have a good start to his tournament, finishing the first round with a one-over 71. Woods started on the back nine and was wholly inconsistent the entire round. While Woods managed to hit four birdies in the first round, that was negated by three bogeys and a double bogey on hole No. 17. He is currently tied for ninety-eighth place in the tournament.
