2012 London Olympics: USA Field Hockey Finishes In Disappointment

Stay connected for news and updates

A brutal Olympics for the United States women's field hockey team came to an end on Friday morning in a 2-1 loss. After just one win and four losses in the qualification stage of the Olympics tournament, USA finished last in the group B standings and did not earn a spot in the bracket play.

Instead the team faced Belgium in a classification game for 11th place out of the 12-team field. After scoring first in the game, team USA allowed a pair of goals including one late in the second half to give Belgium a 2-1 victory.

Three Virginia-natives, Claire Laubach, Caroline Nichols and Shannon Taylor, all played significant minutes for the United States in the loss, but are officially done at the London games.
