The 2012 U.S. Open draw was officially announced Thursday, and as most people wanted, No. 1-seeded Roger Federer and No. 3 Andy Murray were slotted in the same half of the bracket, while No. 2 Novak Djokovic is on the other half. The draw could lead to a possible rematch between both Federer and Murray, who met in the Wimbledon finals and the Olympic gold medal match.

Djokovic will try his hand at defending his title in the tournament, which begins Monday in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. at 11 a.m. ET.

Men's quarterfinal match-ups could feature: Federer vs. Tomas Berdych, Djokovic facing Juan Martin del Potro, Andy Murray pitted against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, and Ferrer squaring off against Janko Tipsarevic.

On the women's side, top-seeded Victoria Azarenka could play defending champion Sam Stosur in the quarterfinals; while Maria Sharapova might meet Petra Kvitova, Serena Williams could face Caroline Wozniacki, and Agnieszka Radwanska and Angelique Kerber could face off.

Of more local interest to Washington Capitals fans, Maria Kirilenko, girlfriend of star player Alex Ovechkin, is the No. 14 seed in the women's singles draw. She will face South Africa's Chanelle Scheepers in the first round. Kirilenko advanced to the fourth round at Flushing Meadow in 2011 before losing to the eventual champion Samantha Stosur.
