Bryce Harper hit two home runs to lead the Washington Nationals to an 8-4 victory over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night.
The much-needed victory snapped a five-game losing streak for the Nationals, who currently sit five games ahead of the Atlanta Braves for the NL East lead.
The uber-hyped rookie Harper, who seemed to take a backseat this season to Los Angeles Angels phenom Mike Trout, appears to be in great company as he continues his own successful rookie campaign.
According to ESPN Stats & Info:
Bryce Harper: 1st career multi-HR game-- 14 HR this season. His 14 total HR as teen are tied for 4th all-time. Want to guess who has most?

However, Harper's evening ended on a sour note when he was ejected in the top of the ninth inning by first-base umpire C.B. Bucknor. Harper had grounded into a 3-6-1 double play and was thrown out by Bucknor after he spiked his helmet in frustration.
Ross Detwiler picked up his eighth win of the season, missing a quality start by just one-third of an inning, allowing just three runs in 5.2 innings.
While not an official situation, the Nationals' Drew Storen finished the game with just six pitches in a perfect ninth inning.
After a quick two-game series with the Marlins, the Nationals will host the St. Louis Cardinals for a four-game weekend set.

The Washington Nationals may still be tops in the NL East, but a five-game losing streak at any point in the season is never a good thing. The Nats have been outscored 26-6 in their losing skid but will be looking to get back on track as they face off against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night, concluding their brief, two-game set.
Ross Detwiler will take the mound for Washington on Wednesday, hoping to help end its five-game slide. Detwiler was on the losing end of his last start against the Atlanta Braves exactly one week ago and enters the game with a 7-6 record and an ERA of 3.25 on the season.

Stephen Strasburg was unable to handle the Miami Marlins and the Washington Nationals were unable to provide any run support, as the Nationals dropped their fifth straight game, losing to Miami 9-0 on Tuesday night in southern Florida.
Strasburg came out against the Marlins without his best stuff, surrendering five earned runs in five innings pitched. Justin Ruggiano provided much of the offense for the Marlins, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
The five-game losing streak matches a Nationals' season worst and the 9-0 loss is the worst shutout loss in team history, equaling a 9-0 loss Washington dropped to the Florida Marlins in 2005.
Ricky Nolasco went the distance for Miami, pitching nine innings of shutout baseball to send the Nationals further down the skid they're on. In relief, the Nationals' Craig Stammen gave up two runs in three innings pitched while trying to corral the Marlins offense.
The Nationals collected just five hits against Nolasco, with catcher Kurt Suzuki highlighting the Nationals' deficient offensive attack with two hits on the night.
The two teams wrap up their quick two-game set tomorrow at 7:10 p.m. EST.

Mired in a four-game losing streak, the Washington Nationals turned to Stephen Strasburg on Tuesday night to stop the skid and slow down the Miami Marlins. Instead, Strasburg has started off against the Marlins with less than his best, giving up five earned runs in three innings.
The Marlins got off to a quick start against Strasburg, scoring two against the righty in the first inning, on the power of a solo homer from Justin Ruggiano and a RBI single from Giancarlo Stanton. After a scoreless second frame, the third inning was more of the same for Strasburg, who gave up three more — highlighted by a two-run RBI single from Greg Dobbs.
The Nationals, for their part, have not provided Strasburg with any run support, unable to score any runs against Marlins starter Ricky Nolasco.
For the season, Strasburg has eclipsed the 140-inning mark as the end of August approaches.

The Washington Nationals open a two-game series with the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night. The Nationals will send their ace Stephen Strasburg (15-5, 2.85 ERA) and his controversial innings count to the mound. The Marlins will counter with Ricky Nolasco (9-12, 5.07).
Washington will get shortstop Ian Desmond and LF Michael Morse back after a period of absence. Desmond suffered a hyperextended knee on Aug. 22 and missed the entire series against the Philadelphia Phillies. Morse was hit in the hand by a pitch on Aug. 24 and missed two games.
