2012 London Olympics Local Heroes: Gabby Douglas Back In Action Monday

One of the breakout stars of the 2012 Summer Olympics will try to win a third gold medal Monday.

Virginia Beach's Gabby Douglas, already with golds in the team and individual all-around gymnastics events, will compete in the individual uneven bars final at North Greenwich Arena Monday (9:50 a.m.)

Two more local track athletes will be on show at the Olympic Stadium Monday. First, Richmond's Kellie Wells will compete in the heats of the women's 100m hurdles race (5:05 a.m.) Then, Hampton's T'erea Brown runs in the semifinals of the women's 400m hurdles (3:15 p.m.)

Three of the four U.S. teams will advance past pool play with a chance to medal, and all four are in action Monday. Peter Hudnut and the U.S. men's water polo play their final group match against Hungary (10:30 a.m.). Reid Priddy and the men's volleyball team close out preliminary action against Tunisia (3:00 p.m.), while Kevin Durant and the U.S. men's basketball team close group play against Argentina at 5:15 p.m.

Not so lucky are the U.S. women's field hockey team, which features three local athletes and former Maryland Terrapins Katie O'Donnell and Keli Smith-Puzo. The women play their final group match against South Africa at 5:45 a.m. and will have one final classification match to play Wednesday, but they have no shot at finishing on the podium.

Also in basketball action, Kevin Seraphin and France meet Tony Skinn and Nigeria at 9:30 a.m., Pops Mensah-Bonsu leads Great Britain against China at 11:45 a.m., and Nene's Brazil faces Spain at 3:00 p.m.
