Two of the world's best players advanced to the fourth round of play at the 2012 U.S. Open with relative ease on Saturday in Flushing Meadows, NY.

On the women's side of the draw, Serena Williams bested Ekaterina Makarova in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0, and will now face the winner of the Maria Kirilenko versus Andrea Hlavackova match. It took Williams just 79 minutes to defeat Makarova, and Serena has now won every match so far in this year's Open in straight sets.

The top seed on the men's side, Roger Federer, also advanced in straight sets on Saturday, beating Fernando Verdasco 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Verdasco committed 35 unforced errors to just 19 for Federer. Federer moves on to face the winner of Saturday evening's match between Mardy Fish and Gilles Simon.
