Washington Redskins defensive end Adam Carriker will miss the remainder of the 2012 season due to a quad tendon tear at the base of his knee, according to Redskins coach Mike Shanahan.

Carriker sustained the injury on the second play from scrimmage in the Redskins' 31-28 loss at the hands of the St. Louis Rams on Sunday and spent the remainder of the game on crutches. Shanahan stated that he expects the recovery time to be around five months.

The loss of Carriker is not unexpected as Shanahan himself stated after the game that he believed the 28-year-old end would require surgery and teammate London Fletcher said earlier on Monday that Carriker was done for the season.
