The San Jose State Spartans came into Navy Memorial Stadium and shutout the Navy Midshipmen 12-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Throughout the contest, Navy (1-3) was outplayed on both sides of the ball, being outgained 388-174 in total yards. San Jose State (4-1) was never able to find the end zone, but scored on four Austin Lopez field goals of 29, 19, 32 and 43 yards.
The star of the game was quarterback David Fales, who completed 29-of-34 passes for 276 yards against the Midshipmen. Conversely, the duo of Trey Miller and Keenan Reynolds only amassed 74 yards on 7-of-13 passing.
Navy was ultimately undone by its inability to rush the football. The Midshipmen rely heavily on their run game, but gained just 70 yards on 38 attempts.
The leading rusher in the affair was De'Leon Eskridge of the Spartans, who picked up a tough 59 yards on 19 carries.
Navy's next game will be on the road next Saturday at Air Force.
The San Jose State Spartans are winning in a defensive battle against the Navy Midshipmen 6-0 in the third quarter at Navy Memorial Stadium.
San Jose State has been dominant thus far, but has only been able to muster six points. The Spratans have outgained the Midshipmen 275-to-73 in total yards, but have fallen short of the end zone thanks to some timely defense and a turnover.
Of course, Navy has been trying to get most of the offense going via the ground game, but has found little success. The Midshipmen have rushed the ball 21 times but only accrued 46 yards in the process. Trey Miller has done virtually nothing through the air, completing 2-of-5 passes for a miniscule 27 yards.
Spartans quarterback David Fales has been much more prolific, hitting on 20-of-25 for 199 yards, although he has tossed an interception.
Austin Lopez has provided the only scoring of the affair, nailing 19 and 29-yard field goals.
