On the strength of his 20-under par Deutsche Bank Championship performance and tournament victory, Rory McIlroy claimed the top spot in the FedEx Cup standings with two events remaining in golf's postseason, leading Nick Watney and Tiger Woods after two events.
McIlroy was fourth after The Barclays, the FedEx Cup's first event, but passed Watney, Woods and Brandt Snedeker to claim the leaderboard's top spot. Louis Oosthuizen, who McIlroy topped by one stroke at the Deutsche Bank, climbed all the way from 21st after The Barclays to fifth. A victory at next week's BMW Championship will be worth 2,500 points in the standings.
