U.S. Open 2012 Tennis Scores: Novak Djokovic Defeats Juan Martin Del Potro, Advances To Semis

Novak Djokovic advanced to the men's semifinals of the 2012 U.S. Open late Thursday night with a 6-2, 7-6, 6-4 win over Juan Martin Del Potro. Djokovic has not faced much resistance so far in Flushing, but the second set against Del Potro, the 2009 winner, provided a true test and was an excellent display on both sides. It featured one 17-minute game but the defending champ Djokovic eventually took the set in a tiebreak, and then moved on in the third. He finished with 43 winners and 28 unforced errors. While he hasn't matched the stirring season of 2011, Djokovic is pushing towards his second major win of the season.

The No. 2 Djokovic will now face David Ferrer, who expended all his energy in a five-set war with Janko Tipsarevic. Ferrer is a top-notch player but has struggled at times to compete with the elite players in the game. The Spaniard will certainly need to rest up after today's interminable battle with Tipsarevic.
