DC-area tidbits in small bites
Via Rich Tandler at the Real Redskins blog, it seems that the men (and probably some women) who know such things in Las Vegas are trying their hardest to put the kibosh on any playoff dreams Redskins fans might be having.
[The] number for the Redskins is 6.5 wins, a little better than last year's 5 but a far cry from the .500 record or possible playoff contention that Redskins fans are hoping for.
And the opinion of the bookies is even worse than that. They expect a lot of action on the under so if you're going to bet that side you will have to risk $130 to win $100. The casinos will give you even money on an over bet.
Memorial Day weekend is here, and it is full of possibilities. Some will head for the beach, others for the mountains. If you're Alexander Ovechkin and you've just helped your country to a gold medal at the IIHF World Championships, then you hit up Paris to watch your tennis star girlfriend compete in the French Open at Roland Garros.
But don't take our word for it. Take it from the man himself, who tweeted for the first time since March 9 to spread the word.
We're huge fans of Baltimore's Adam Jones, who has become one of our favorite MLB players to watch (non-Bryce Harper division).
Now with the Orioles and Jones reportedly on the verge of a contract extension, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports that Jones could have gone down the Baltimore-Washington Parkway to D.C. this winter.
#orioles could have had lannan, storen, Lombardozzi and CF for Jones over winter. Passed

Our series of videos of NFL rookies taken last weekend at the NFLPA Rookie Premiere in Las Vegas continues with this delightful little number.
Earlier this week, we gave you a little taste of the rookies interacting with one another by handing them the microphones and letting them riff. In our newest video, which shows up after the jump, Robert Griffin III interviews two of the NFC North's hot rookie prospects, wide receivers Alshon Jeffrey, formerly of South Carolina, and Jarius Wright, formerly of Arkansas.
One day after an arbitrator chucked out the appeal of the Redskins and Cowboys against the NFL's $46 million salary cap penalties, the NFLPA decided to take a crack of their own. Wednesday, a collusion complaint was filed in U.S. District Court in Minnesota by the NFLPA, who allege that the NFL implemented a "secret salary cap" of $123 million prior to the supposedly uncapped 2010 season.
The NFLPA and the players also later learned that, according to internal NFL calculations, those four Clubs did not adhere to the league-wide conspiracy, at least not fully, in exceeding the secret salary cap during the uncapped 2010 season by the following amounts: Redskins:$102,833,047; Cowboys: $52,938,774; Raiders: $41,914,060; Saints: $36,329,770
Joining SB Nation at the NFLPA Rookie Premiere event in Los Angeles were our buddies from Outsports, the self-described "worldwide leader in gay sports news, commentary, photos and videos."
Over the course of the weekend, Outsports talked to over a dozen rookies and veterans about how they might react to playing with a gay teammate.
One of those rookies was Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III.
Griffin remembered a high school teammate who had come out to his team in Copperas Cove, Texas.
While Griffin said he has gay friends and wouldn't care if a player came out on his new Washington Redskins team, he remembered a sad ending to the football career of his gay former teammate.
About this time yesterday, we posted the following.
HEAR YE, HEAR YE: SB Nation DC is seeking a new #Caps editor. Reply, DM, or email chamberlain.samuel@yahoo.com if interested.

In the intervening period, a number of expressions of interest have come our way. For that, we thank you (and are still accepting more). But also, a number of questions have come up concerning the exact nature of the role. So, let's try to answer them now, after the jump.
Over the weekend, Amy K. Nelson and Dan Rubenstein of SB Nation Studios jetted out to Los Angeles for the NFLPA Rookie Premiere, essentially a chance to get a first formal look at the newest NFL players in their team's uniforms, as well as watch them interact with each other.
Since it was a beautiful spring Saturday in Los Angeles, the last thing Amy and Dan felt like doing was working, apparently. So, they turned the camera and the microphone over to the rookies themselves, and turned them loose on each other.
After winning MLS Player of the Week honors three times while a member of D.C. United in 2011, Dwayne De Rosario has earned the prestigious honor for the first time in 2012.
The North American Soccer Reporters organization gave De Rosario the honor for the 10th time in his MLS career, which matches DeRo with Edson Buddle, Cobi Jones, and Ante Razov for third-most on MLS' all-time list.
De Rosario scored three goals in the Black-And-Red's two home matches this past week. He opened the scoring in United's 2-0 win over the Colorado Rapids Wednesday and added two more on the 3-1 win over Toronto FC on Saturday.
