After winning back-to-back games for the first time in nearly three full years, D.C. United's hot streak was brought to a crashing halt by the San Jose Earthquakes, who defeated the Black-And-Red 5-3 at Buck Shaw Stadium Wednesday night.
But San Jose scored the next three goals, with two coming in quick succession. First, Lenhart equalized with a right-footed shot from the top of the box in the 19th minute. United's depleted central defense was cut to ribbons in the 21st minute, as a pretty passing move ended with Wondolowski side-footing the ball past Joe Willis.
Justin Morrow made it 3-1 on the half-hour mark when his volley off a corner deflected past Willis and into the net.
United got back into the match after halftime, as Daniel Woolard's diving header from an Andy Najar cross made the score 3-2 in the 64th minute. But Wondolowski made the score 4-2 after heading in Steven Beitashour's cross in the 69th minute.
Lenhart added his second five minutes later to make the score 5-2 before Hamdi Salihi opened his D.C. United account in the 88th minute by running on to a De Rosario through ball and chipping past the oncoming Busch.
