D.C. United Re-Signs Midfielder Kurt Morsink, Releases Pablo Hernandez

D.C. United had a busy Friday, making a series of roster moves. First, they released striker Pablo Hernandezaccording to Steven Goff of the Washington Post. Then, they officially announced that they have re-signed midfielder Kurt Morsink and acquired defender Daniel Woolard from the Chicago Fire.

Hernandez was an expensive mid-season acquisition that ended up not paying off all that much. The Argentinian forward was talented, but finished with just one assists and no goals in 14 league games. The two sides mutually agreed to terminate his $250,000 contract, which would have been the second-highest on the club. General manager Dave Kasper said that he had a "hefty" buyout coming in July and they could not negotiate a lower transfer price for him.

Morsink, who was acquired from Kansas City in March of last year, started 18 of 20 league matches in the team's midfield. As Craig Stouffer notes, though, this means D.C. United's midfield is crowded, and a trade could be coming.

Woolard, who played in preseason with D.C. United last year, most recently played for the Carolina Railhawks of the USSF Second Division.
