D.C. United Vs. New England Final Score: Revolution Hold On For Controversial 2-1 Win Over United

After falling behind 2-0 on two unfortunate and ugly goals in the first half of action, D.C. United failed to penetrate the New England Revolution defense and received their first loss of the season.

Charlie Davies emerged at halftime for United and created multiple chances for the road team, but the rest of D.C. was not able to step up. The team generally lacked ideas and cohesion in the attacking third. Marc Burch and the D.C. midfielders sent in many threatening crosses, but they could not beat Matt Reis until it was too late.

United did manage to pull a goal back late in the game as yet another controversial call handed United a penalty. A scrum in the box on a United corner kick convinced Baldomero Toledo to once again point to the spot, signaling a penalty kick for D.C. Davies buried it down the middle. It was Davies' league-leading third goal of the season, but it wasn't enough.

United fell to 1-1-0 on the season, and will take to the road once again next week with a visit to the defending MLS Cup champion Colorado Rapids, before returning home to take on the Los Angeles Galaxy in two weeks.
