Drexel Vs. George Mason: Patriots Slay Dragons In 71-47 Win

In a pivotal CAA matchup, the George Mason Patriots won their tenth consecutive home game in a 71-47 win over the Drexel Dragons.

Luke Hancock led the Patriots with 16 points and nine rebounds. Cam Long had 14 points, Ryan Pearson had 12 points and Andre Cornelius added 10.

For Drexel, Chris Fouch had 11 points off of the bench, making him the only Dragon in double figures. None of the starters scored in double figures.

Drexel entered the game giving up just 25 percent from the three-point line, third-best in the country, but the Patriots shot 40% from three to pull away early. There was also a huge discrepancy in free throw shooting; Mason made 29, while Drexel made only 12.

With the victory, Mason improves to 5-2 in CAA play and now has a two-game lead on Drexel, who could have tied them in the standings with a victory. The Patriots are now in a three-way tie with Old Dominion and James Madison for second in the conference behind VCU and Hofstra, who sit at 6-1.

Drexel Vs. George Mason: Patriots Lead 37-30 At Halftime

The George Mason Patriots are holding home court in Fairfax as they lead the Drexel Dragons 37-30 at halftime.

Luke Hancock has 11 points for Mason to lead all scorers. Mike Morrison has eight points, while Ryan Pearson and Andre Cornelius. Samme Givens has nine points to lead the Dragons.

Mason is shooting 41.7 percent from the field compared to Drexel's 46.2, but Mason has hit three three-pointers. Drexel has none.

The Patriots also have a huge free throw advantage, hitting 14-17, while Drexel is 6-10.

Drexel Vs. George Mason: Patriots Fight Dragons With CAA Standings At Stake

The George Mason Patriots will host the Drexel Dragons Wednesday night in Fairfax with conference rankings on the line.

George Mason enters the game with a 4-2 record in CAA play, tied with Old Dominion for fourth behind James Madison, VCU and Hofstra. Drexel stands at 3-3, so a win would put them tied with George Mason.

The CAA named Mason's Ryan Pearson as the conference player of the week last week after averaging 19 points and 65 percent shooting in two games.

Mason leads the CAA in field goal percentage (48.6), but will have their hands full trying to figure out Drexel's defense. The Dragons allow just 25.9 percent shooting from three-point range, the third-lowest mark in the country.

The Patriots have won nine straight at the Patriot Center, while the Dragons have lost six of seven in Fairfax.
