Stay connected for news and updates

George Mason basketball's 2011-12 season continues to get off on the wrong foot. One week after a loss to Florida International robbed the Patriots a chance to take down Virginia Tech, George Mason suffered another confounding loss to a Florida school. The Patriots fell, 80-75, in overtime to Florida Atlantic on Saturday night, a team that entered the game with a 1-3 record.

Florida Atlantic used a 19-8 spurt to open up a 12-point lead in the second half. George Mason rallied, eventually tying the score at 66 to send the game to overtime. However, the Patriots looked tired in the extra frame, as Florida Atlantic scored at will in the paint and with offensive rebounds.

Vertrail Vaughns had 21 points to lead George Mason, while Ryan Pearson chipped in with 19. Here are other local scores from Saturday.

  • Qunnipiac 78, Navy 54.
  • Belmont 87, Towson 41.
  • VMI 84, Maryland-Baltimore County 79.
  • American 66, Columbia 58.
