George Mason and Georgia State did battle in Fairfax on Saturday night with first place in the Colonial Athletic Association on the line, and the game was a tight one. In the end, the Patriots did just enough to come away with a 61-58 win, moving to 4-0 in the CAA and snapping Georgia State's 11-game winning streak.
The game came down to the final minute, and it turned on a controversial call. Trailing by three points with 37.8 seconds remaining, Georgia State was called for an offensive foul when Josh Micheaux crashed into a Patriots' defender. Georgia State coach Ron Hunter felt it should have been a blocking foul. The Patriots survived from there to pick up the win.
Mike Morrison dominated for George Mason, with 14 points, 15 rebounds and four blocked shots. His play allowed the Patriots to overcome a horrendous game for Ryan Pearson, who missed all four of his field goal attempts.
