George Washington entered the Carrier Dome hoping to stop a three-game slide, and ended up running into a buzzsaw against No. 3 Syracuse. The Orange routed the Colonials, 85-50, and due to circumstances that occurred elsewhere, they will likely be the No. 1 team in the country next week.
George Washington had little chance to win, and whatever small chance the Colonials of pulling a massive upset were dashed early. The Colonials hit just one of their first 16 shots, eventually falling behind 13-4. Syracuse then took a 26-12 lead and extended that lead to 45-25 at halftime. From there, it was all garbage time.
Dion Waiters scored 19 to pace Syracuse, who will likely move to No. 1 in the country after Kentucky lost to Indiana and Ohio State lost to Kansas. Three George Washington players were in double figures.
The Colonials are now 4-5 on the season and have lost four straight games.
