Georgetown Vs. Memphis: Hoyas Make Statement In 86-69 Victory Over Memphis

The last time that No. 10 Georgetown played a Top 25 team known as the Tigers, they escaped with a victory on the road against the No. 9 Missouri Tigers. Thursday night in yet another road game against a ranked team known as the Tigers, the Hoyas didn't have as much of a problem.

Austin Freeman scored 24 points on nine-of-12 shooting to lead the Hoyas to an impressive 86-69 victory over the No. 16 Memphis Tigers.

Chris Wright had 19 points for the Hoyas, while Julian Vaughn had a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Georgetown shot 57% from the field, including 45% from beyond the arc. The Hoyas entered the game as the nation's second-most efficient shooting team (52.5%) and had no problem keeping Memphis at bay throughout the game.

The Hoyas are now done with the non-conference portion of their schedule. On December 29, Georgetown will travel to South Bend for a game against the No. 22 Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Georgetown Vs. Memphis: Hoyas Lead 40-36 At Halftime

The Georgtown Hoyas are doing a good job hitting their shots, as they're shooting over 53 percent from the field at halftime. However, they only lead No. 16 Memphis by four points at halftme.

Austin Freeman is in double figures with 11 points to lead the Hoyas, who have controlled the pace of the game. However, shorthanded Memphis, playing without their best player, is hanging around. Will Barton has starred in the first half, and Will Coleman has provided a lift off the bench.

Overall, though, it's been a balanced effort for the Hoyas. Freeman, Chris Wright and Julian Vaughn are having strong games, and they seem to be poised for a big run to begin the second half.

Georgetown Vs. Memphis: Hoyas Get Final Big Test Before Conference Play

The Georgetown Hoyas have one of the NCAA's tougher non-conference schedules, having already played against Missouri (in a "neutral" game in Kansas City), at Temple, at Old Dominion and on a neutral court against North Carolina State. However, they face what is possibly their biggest test tonight when they take on No. 16 Memphis in the FexEx Forum in Tennessee. The game will take place at 8 p.m. and will be broadcasted on ESPN2.

The Tigers are 9-1 on the year, with the only loss coming at highly-ranked Kansas on December 7. That has been their only true road game to date. They have wins over Miami and LSU, but otherwise have played a pretty easy slate. Still, they are an up-and-coming team led by young coach Josh Pastner.

The good news for Georgetown is that Memphis' top scorer, junior Wesley Witherspoon, is not in the lineup because of torn cartilage in his knee. He's not expected back until mid-January at the earliest. With him sidelined, the Tigers will have to rely on Joe Jackson and Will Barton, the team's other double-figure scorers.

This is Georgetown's final non-conference game of the season. They will begin Big East play on December 29 at Notre Dame.
