Georgetown Vs. Notre Dame: Hoyas Fall In Big East Opener In 69-55 Loss To Notre Dame

The No. 9 Georgetown Hoyas have faced some tough competition on the road this season, but none like the atmosphere that they experienced in South Bend Wednesday against the No. 15 Notre Dame FIghting Irish.

Tim Abromaitis scored 20 points and Tyrone Nash had a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds to propel the FIghting Irish to a 69-55 victory over Georgetown.

In the Big East opener for both teams, Notre Dame held an eight-point lead at halftime and pulled away midway through the second half. A 14-2 run gave the Fighting Irish a 16-point lead. Georgetown, led by Austin Freeman's 21 points, responded with a 9-0 run of their own, but two straight Notre Dame three-pointers gave them the lead for good.

Georgetown shot 42.6% from the field, down from their average of 52.8%, second-best in the nation. No player besides Freeman scored in double figures. Freeman hit nine of the Hoyas' 23 total field goals.
