Georgetown Cruises To 86-75 Win Over DePaul

It wasn't pretty, but the Georgetown Hoyas got their first Big East win of the season today against the DePaul Blue Demons.

Jason Clark and Austin Freeman each had 21 points for the Hoyas in the win, but the No. 9 team in the country also allowed Cleveland Melvin and Tony Freeland to score over 20 points each for the Blue Demons.

SB Nation's Georgetown blog Casual Hoya was less than impressed with the win, calling it the worst defensive performance for Georgetown since the NCAA Tournament opening round loss to Ohio last season.

It is unclear why the Hoyas believe that they will shoot their way out of any deficit, but this team will not be better than .500 in the Big East if their defense continues to look like it has in the last two games.  Depaul hit one three pointer all game, and were still down by only three points with eight minutes to go.  If you nursed a hangover during the game and didn't get up to watch, you may be asking how they stayed in the game with no contributions from beyond the arc.  The reason is because Depaul had somewhere between 80 and 7,000 uncontested layups today.

Georgetown returns to action Monday night against the St. John's Red Storm for another important Big East matchup.
