2011 NCAA Tournament Schedule And Announcers: Georgetown To Play Friday At 9:50

The Georgetown Hoyas earned a No. 6 seed in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, and will play Friday at 9:50 p.m. The NCAA Tournament schedule has been released, and Georgetown's first-round game will be against either USC or Virginia Commonwealth.

The game will be broadcasted on TNT. Spero Dedes and Bob Wenzel will be the announcers. The game between USC and Virginia Commonwealth will be on Wednesday at 9:10 p.m. on TruTV, with Gus Johnson and Len Elmore on the call.

The Hoyas earned the No. 6 seed in the Southwest region after losing their final four games of the season. However, Chris Wright has been cleared to play, so the Hoyas are somewhat dangerous. USC and VCU are two of the final at-large teams selected to the field.

The winner will face the winner of the game between No. 3 seed Purdue and No. 14 seed St. Peter's on Sunday afternoon.

2011 NCAA Tournament: Georgetown Plays USC Or VCU, Who Are Surprise Participants

The Georgetown Hoyas earned a No. 6 seed in the 2011 NCAA Tournament bracket, which is about where we expected given the uncertainty of the Chris Wright injury. As a reward, the Hoyas will play one of the two most controversial teams in the NCAA Tournament field: USC, or Virginia Commonwealth.

The Trojans and Rams were two of the last four teams in the field, and will therefore do battle in a play-in game on Tuesday. USC gets in despite its coach being embarrassingly suspended during the Pac-10 Tournament, while VCU is a real shock because it gives the CAA three bids.

Both teams have their merits, but Georgetown should be happy with either matchup. The Trojans have been very inconsistent this year, and have not played all that well in a mediocre Pac-10. VCU, on the other hand, is a very good team, but is also a small one. The Hoyas will probably prefer to play USC, but should be favored against both teams.

Of course, all that depends on how healthy Chris Wright's broken hand ends up being.

2011 NCAA Tournament: Georgetown Receives 6 Seed, Will Play Either USC Or VCU In First Round

The Georgetown Hoyas have received a No. 6 seed in the 2011 NCAA Tournament. The 2011 NCAA bracket was just revealed on the Selection Sunday show on CBS, and the Hoyas will be in the Southwest Region region. They will play either USC or Virginia Commonwealth.

The Georgetown basketball team closed the season with four straight losses after Chris Wright's hand injury, all in blowout fashion. Prior to those losses, the Hoyas were on their way to an even higher seed. The good news, though, is that Wright has been cleared to play in the NCAA Tournament, which should give the Hoyas a boost. Nevertheless, the selection committee punished the Hoyas with their seed.

The Hoyas will be looking for a better result in the NCAA Tournament than they had last season, when they earned a No. 3 seed, but fell meekly to No. 14 seed Ohio in the first round.
