Georgetown vs. Liberty game recap: Hoyas hang on for 68-59 win

Mitchell Layton

Using a big first half, the Hoyas picked up their second win of the season.

Georgetown didn't have its best player on Wednesday, but it was still able to grab its second victory of the season. A strong first half fueled a 68-59 win over Liberty.

The Hoyas jumped out to a 41-25 lead at the half, and despite being outscored by the Flames in the second frame, they were able to hang for a nine-point victory.

They were without Otto Porter, who missed the game with what appears to be a mild concussion.

In his absence, Greg Whittington notched a double-double, finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Mikael Hopkins pitched in 15 points of his own.

Part of the reason that Georgetown had a problem rolling over Liberty was poor outside shooting. The Hoyas made just two of 14 attempts from beyond the arc.

John Thompson III's crew is off now until Monday, when it will play UCLA in the Legends Classic at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
