Thursday is the first real day of the 2012 NCAA Tournament, featuring a full slate of games. That includes Loyola (MD), a local team that has a pretty serious uphill battle on Thursday when they face the No. 2 seed in the bracket Ohio State.
The game will be played in Pittsburgh, so in addition to the talent advantage that the Buckeyes have, they will also have a pretty significant home court advantage. The game starts late, so make sure you don't tucker yourself with basketball all day before the game even starts. It is scheduled to get underway at 9:50 pm tonight and can be found on TNT.

The VCU Rams have found themselves in the NCAA Tournament once again, this time as a No. 12 seed tipping off against No. 5 seed Wichita State in the first round on Thursday evening. The Rams battled their way through the CAA Conference Tournament to take down Drexel in the Championship game to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament, where they'll look to once again make some noise with upsets.
The Shockers on the other hand earned a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament after losing in the conference tournament, but notching a 27-5 overall record and losing only two games in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Shockers played it close and even beat some other tournament teams during the season, but they'll have their hands full with VCU as they try to avoid the upset.
Game Date/Time: Thursday, March 15, 7:15 p.m. ET
Location: Rose Garden, Portland, OR

The saying "There's a first time for everything definitely applies to Norfolk State. The Spartans are making their first appearance in the Big Dance in school history (which dates back to 1935, though the program only moved up to Division I in 1997).
Norfolk State earned their automatic bid by running off a 25-9 regular season record, including 10-4 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, and making their way through a minefield of a MEAC Tournament. The Spartans held off stiff challenges from Howard and Florida A&M before defeating Bethune-Cookman 73-70 in the final. Kyle O'Quinn led the way with 18 points, while Pendarvis Williams added 17 and Rob Johnson added 15.
The Spartans played a very creditable non-conference schedule, defeating CAA regular season champions Drexel 61-56 and coming within two points of defeating Big East contender Marquette, finally losing 59-57. Both those games occurred on a neutral floor (the Paradise Jam in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands), and both proved that Norfolk State could play with anyone.
O' Quinn, Chris McEachin, and Williams lead the Spartans in scoring, averaging 15.9, 12.8, and 11.8 points per game respectively. O'Quinn also handles most of the rebounding duties, averaging 10.4 rebounds per game.
O'Quinn will have to play the game of his life for the No. 15 seed Spartans to defeat No. 2 seed Missouri. The two square off in the Round of 64 Friday afternoon in Omaha, Nebraska.

No. 3 seed Georgetown is back in the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season. However, the Hoyas haven't won a tournament game since beating UMBC in the Round of 64 in 2008. The TV schedule for the tournament is now out, and the Hoyas and Bruins will square off on Friday, March 16 in Columbus.
Here is all the TV information for the game:
Game date/time: Friday, March 16, approximately 3:10 p.m. ET

The Georgetown Hoyas earned a 3 seed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament and will face off against the 14 seed Belmont Bruins. The Hoyas haven't had much success in the NCAA Tournament as of late and SB Nation's Georgetown blog Casual Hoya expects plenty to be picking against the Hoyas.
There will be plenty of analysts on TV and the internet that will predict a Georgetown loss to Belmont, we've already seen Seth Davis and others do so. And frankly, it is an easy and lazy choice because of our recent tournament history. But let's step back for a second and applaud this year's team for a season that has outperformed all of our wildest expectations.
The Hoyas have made six of the last seven NCAA Tournaments, but have been bounced out much earlier than expected in some of them.

After a successful regular season, the VCU Rams have landed the No. 12 seed in the South Region for this year's NCAA Tournament, as the selection committee announced on Sunday. The Rams are the lone representative from the CAA in the Big Dance, earning the league's automatic bid by defeating CAA regular season champion Drexel in the tournament championship game.
The South Region should pose numerous challenges for a talented VCU team. In the first round of the tournament, the Billikens will be facing No. 5-seeded Wichita State, with the winner moving on to face the winner of the matchup between No. 4 seed Indiana and No. 13 seed New Mexico State in the second round.
If the Rams do indeed duplicate their success of last season early in the tournament, they could eventually face the likes of Kentucky, Duke or Baylor, the region's top-three seeds, in later rounds.

After landing the No. 10 seed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, the Virginia Cavaliers will be playing 7-seeded Florida to kick things off in the first round. The Cavaliers were considered a lock for an at-large bid from the tournament's selection committee after turning in a 22-9 record during the regular season.
The Cavaliers bowed out in their first game at the ACC Tournament in Atlanta, losing 67-64 to North Carolina State. With a full week of rest, the Cavaliers will now begin their postseason march against Florida.
The Florida Gators defeated Alabama in the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament but were bounced out by Kentucky in semifinals in New Orleans. The Gators finished up their regular season with a 23-10 record and a 10-6 SEC record, falling twice to Kentucky in the regular season and then one more time in the conference tournament. Coming into the matchup with Virginia, the Gators will have lost four of their last five games.

After landing a No. 12 seed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, the VCU Rams will be playing No. 5-seeded Wichita State to kick things off in the first round. The Rams locked up an automatic berth on Monday with a CAA Tournament Championship win over Drexel.
VCU finished the season with a 28-6 record overall and a 15-3 record in the CAA. With more than ten days of rest, the Rams will now begin their postseason march to return to the Final Four against the Shockers.
VCU will face a team that entered the 2012 Missouri Valley Conference being touted as perhaps "this year's VCU". A loss to Illinois State in the MVC Tournament bumped the Shockers a bit off the radar, but this team is extremely strong, ranking near the Top 10 in the nation in Ken Pomeroy's efficiency ratings.

After landing the No. 3 seed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, the Georgetown Hoyas will be playing 14-seeded Belmont to kick things off in the first round. The Hoyas were a lock for an at-large bid from the tournament's selection committee after turning in a 23-8 record during a regular season.
The Hoyas defeated Pittsburgh in their second round matchup at the Big East Tournament but were bounced out by Cincinnati in double overtime in the quarterfinals at Madison Square Garden. With a full week of rest, the Hoyas will now begin their postseason march against Belmont.
The Belmont Bruins won the Atlantic Sun in the regular season and won the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament. The Bruins put up an impressive 27-7 record and a 16-2 record in the Atlantic Sun. Belmont had some impressive close losses on their resume, falling to the Duke Blue Devils by a single point in the first game of the season and keeping it close with Memphis for much of the game. Outside of that however, the Bears dominated most of their opponents and enter the matchup with Georgetown with a 14-game win streak.

After landing the No. 15 seed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, the Loyola Greyhounds will be playing No. 2-seeded Ohio State to kick things off in their first game. The Greyhounds earned an automatic berth to the big dance with a MAAC Tournament Championship Game win over Fairfield on Monday.
Loyola finished the season with a 24-8 record overall and a 13-5 record in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. With more than ten days of rest, the Greyhounds will now get a shot to pull off an improbable upset against the Buckeyes.
Ohio State (27-7) is not as dominant as they were a year ago, but the Buckeyes will still pose major problems for Loyola with their defensive intensity, and of course big man Jared Sullinger, who turned down the NBA last offseason to stay in Columbus. If Sullinger gets going, and wings William Buford and Aaron Craft begin knocking down shots consistently, Ohio State will be difficult to stop for the Greyhounds.

The day has finally arrived. Selection Sunday for the 2012 NCAA Tournament is here, but before the official selection committee announces the actual bids and seeding, let's take a look at the projections for some of the local schools from Chris Dobbertean of SB Nation and Blogging The Bracket.
The Georgetown Hoyas, at one time projected to be a No. 3 seed, have dropped to a No. 4 seed. CAA Tournament champion VCU is slotted as a No. 11 seed, as are the Virginia Cavaliers of the ACC. Loyola, winners of the MAAC Tournament, earn a No. 14 seed.
Dobbertean is one of the few bracketologists who still has the Drexel Dragons, the regular season CAA champion, in the tournament. They make his "Last Four In" category.
