After a successful regular season, the VCU Rams have landed the No. 12 seed in the South Region for this year's NCAA Tournament, as the selection committee announced on Sunday. The Rams are the lone representative from the CAA in the Big Dance, earning the league's automatic bid by defeating CAA regular season champion Drexel in the tournament championship game.
The South Region should pose numerous challenges for a talented VCU team. In the first round of the tournament, the Billikens will be facing No. 5-seeded Wichita State, with the winner moving on to face the winner of the matchup between No. 4 seed Indiana and No. 13 seed New Mexico State in the second round.
If the Rams do indeed duplicate their success of last season early in the tournament, they could eventually face the likes of Kentucky, Duke or Baylor, the region's top-three seeds, in later rounds.
