The Mark Turgeon era officially gets underway when the Maryland Terrapins take on UNC-Wilmington at Comcast Center on Sunday night.
The Mark Turgeon era will officially get underway for Maryland basketball on Sunday night. The Terps will begin their 2011-12 season at home against CAA foe UNC-Wilmington at 8 p.m. The game is not on television, but will be broadcasted on TerpsTV (for $10) and TheACC.com.
The Terps will bring a short-handed squad to Comcast Center for the game. With Pe'Shon Howard sidelined due to injury, Turgeon surprised many by naming freshman Nick Faust as the starting point guard on Saturday. Faust, who is a natural shooting guard, will start on the ball, with Terrell Stoglin playing off the ball.
UNC-Wilmington is coming off a season where it finished 13-18 and 7-11 in the CAA. Three starters and eight lettermen return, led by junior forward Keith Rendleman, who averaged 11.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. This is also its first game of the season.
