Maryland was able to hold on to their slim lead late in the second half of their game against the North Carolina Wilmington Seahawks to get the win 71-62, despite a run to cut the Terrapins lead to six with just over two minutes remaining.
The Terrapins struggled with ball security, committing 13 turnovers to only 7 assists. The difference in the game was Maryland's ability to get to the foul line, as they shot over two times as many free throws as did the Seahawks.
Terrell Stoglin led Maryland with 22 points despite coming off the bench. James Padgett (13) and Ashton Pankey(12) were the only other Maryland players to reach double digits.
Though the Terrapins shot a torrid 48 percent from the field, they were a horrid 0-for-9 from 3-point range. The Seahawks hit six 3-pointers, five of which were by Adam Smith who led the game in scoring with 23 points. No other player reached double digits for the Seahawks.
With the win, the Terrapins move to 1-0 on the season. The loss drops the Seahawks to 0-1. For more coverage of Maryland Terrapin basketball, come out of your shell to SB Nation DC.

The Maryland Terrapins hold a five-point halftime lead over the visiting North Carolina Wilmington Seahawks in their season opener at the Comcast Center. Despite an early lead by the Seahawks, the Terrapins climbed back in with the help of bench player and second-year guard Terrell Stoglin. Stoglin had 14 points in the first half.
The Terps slow start was due to their inability to hold onto the basketball and to hit from deep. Maryland turned the ball over nine times in the first 20 minutes while only totaling three assists. They also shot 0-for-5 from beyond the arc in the opening half, compared to their opponents' 4-of-10 shooting from downtown. They were, however, able to go to the foul line 14 times to the Seahawks four, hitting 10 of their 14 attempts.
Seahawk Adam Smith leads the game in scoring at the halfway point with 16 points and hitting 4-of-5 from 3-point range.
