Sophomore defensive lineman David Mackall, who has been one of the bright spots in an otherwise dreary season for the Maryland football team, has been suspended for a violation of team rules, the school announced Wednesday. Coach Randy Edsall made the announcement.

The specific violation is still unknown at this time, but Mackall also did not start vs. Boston College. He becomes the sixth player to be suspended since Edsall took over, a sign that the new coach continues to be strict when it comes to new rules with the program. The two major players to be suspended prior to Mackall were wide receivers Ronnie Tyler and Quintin McCree.

Mackall is second on the Terps in sacks with three and has played a key role in run defense. Marcus Whitfield, a sophomore, will fill his spot in the lineup.
