Gary Williams' Recommendation Helped Maryland Basketball Hire Mark Turgeon

When Gary Williams announced his retirement after 22 years as Maryland's basketball coach, he did so to become the Terps' assistant athletic director. This put him in a position to affect the coaching search, and he said that he would do whatever Kevin Anderson wanted him to do to help. Three days later, Maryland hired Mark Turgeon.

Sure, Williams and Turgeon could not be more different stylistically. But if Williams himself endorses the hire, then Terps fans should probably feel pretty good about it too.
