College Football Rankings: Maryland Receives Votes In BlogPoll Top 25

We have our own College Football rankings here at SB Nation and we call it the Blog Poll. It allows bloggers that write for College football sites all over our network to weigh in and give their opinion about where each team should be ranked. After one week of play, the Maryland Terrapins have apparently impressed enough to receive some votes.

If you click on the Terps on the poll below you can see where their votes were distributed, including one pollster who has the Terps all the way up at No. 4. If you look at the rest of his Top 25, he clearly just used his poll to kind of poke fun at the notion of ranking teams in the preseason at all. But other than that outlier, the Terps got some serious consideration in the latter portions of the poll. Here is the complete top 25.

College Football Rankings: Seven Voters Place Maryland In AP Top 25

Maryland football received 34 points in the week two AP Top 25 college football rankings following their 32-24 win over Miami on Monday night, which was far more than they received in the preseason poll. That technically makes them the 36th-ranked team in the country. All in all, seven voters placed Maryland in their Top 25, with one ranking them as high as No. 16 in the country.

Here are those people, via Pollstalker:

  • Anthony Gimono, Tucson Citizen: 16
  • Scott Wolf, Los Angeles Daily News: 17
  • Mike Hlas, Cedar Rapids Gazette: 19
  • Ray Ratto, CSN Bay Area/San Francisco Chronicle: 22
  • Mitch Vingle, Charleston Gazette: 24
  • Chadd Cripe, Idaho Statesman: 25
  • Doug Lesmerises, Cleveland Plain-Dealer: 25

As Patrick Stevens of the Washington Times notes, only one of those seven men could be considered East coast writers, so there's really no case of homerism at play. For the full list of NCAA football rankings, visit SBNation.com.

College Football Rankings, Week 2: Maryland Gets 34 Points In Latest AP Poll

The voters of the AP Poll were already giving the Maryland Terrapins some love before the season, but they are receiving even more votes now after their win over the Miami Hurricanes on Monday night. The Terps got a whopping 34 points in the latest poll, which is good for 36th in the Country.

They are right around teams like Iowa, Southern California, Auburn and Northwestern. I don't know what's more surprising, that the Terps are ranked with National powers like that, or that Northwestern is too. They are still a pretty good amount of points away from being ranked in the top 25, but every little win helps. You can find the complete AP Poll here.

Florida State is the highest ranked ACC school, all the way up at No. 5. They are followed by Virginia Tech at No. 11. Other than that, there are no ACC teams ranked. In fact, Maryland is the third highest ranking team from the ACC.

College Football Rankings 2011: Maryland Receives Four Votes In Latest USA Today Poll

After their win against the Miami Hurricanes on Monday, the Maryland Terrapins have made a very small inroad towards gaining some national respect for their football team. The Terps were shut out of the preseason USA Today poll, but in the latest edition, they have made a very small bit of progress. The Terps received four votes in the latest poll, which equates to being ranked as just about the 44th best team in the Country.

They are ranked right around teams like Georgia Tech, Washington, Brigham Young and Tennessee. With a win against the Mountaineers of West Virginia in a couple weeks, they could climb even further. Here is the complete USA Today top 25.

NCAA Football Rankings: Maryland Listed On One Ballot In Preseason AP Top 25 Poll

The preseason AP Top 25 poll has come out, and once again, both Maryland and Navy have been shut out of the NCAA football rankings. Neither team is listed in the Top 25, and neither team particularly comes close.

The Terps, however, did improve on their USA Today poll shutout in one way: they got one voter to notice them. Sports Illustrated's Andy Staples did include Maryland on his ballot, ranking them 24th. Nobody else listed Maryland on their ballots.

Oklahoma was the top team in the AP poll, followed by Alabama, Oregon, LSU and Boise State. ACC rival Florida State checked in at No. 6, while Virginia Tech was in the poll at No. 13. No other ACC team was listed in the Top 25. In the preseason USA Today poll, Florida State was No. 5, while Virginia Tech also checked in at No. 13.
