We've already heard the conference expansion rumor where Maryland would head to the Big East. Now, get ready for an even more farfetched scenario. As the SEC looks to find a 14th member that would join with Texas A&M, Maryland has been named as a possibility, according to CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd:
SEC No. 14 down to Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Missouri. May not happen until '13.
Dodd later clarified to say that was just his guess. Maryland in the SEC would seem like a major stretch, since the Terps don't have the resources to compete in football. They would more than hold their own in basketball, but moving away from their current regional rivalries in the ACC seems improbable.
SB Nation's Terps blog Testudo Times ponders the rumor and suggests that if the Terps leave the ACC, the Big 10, and not the ACC, would be a better fit.
