The University of Maryland fanbase is an interesting mix of D.C.-area types and those with Baltimore ties. That makes it especially hard to figure out the Terps fit in with a local sports scene. Do they belong in D.C., since College Park is only a few minutes from the city border, or do they belong in Baltimore, since so many Terps fans are also Baltimore sports fans?
On this day, with the Baltimore Ravens playing a key NFL Playoff game against the Houston Texans, the decision was easy. That's how you get Testudo, the team's mascot, looking like Donatello from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the Terps' game against Georgia Tech.
It's an understandable gesture, but wouldn't all the Terps fans that are also Ravens fans be watching the Ravens game? Why would they come out to see the Terps?
