2012 ACC Football Standings: Terrapins leading the pack

Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The Maryland Terrapins are the only unbeaten team in ACC play.

The 2012 college football season has seen quite a few upsets and surprise teams, with the ACC accounting for quite a few of them.

The conference has its one major power in the Florida State Seminoles, who right now have to be the overwhelming favorite to win the ACC. Jimbo Fisher's group has looked terrific in every week but one, losing to the North Carolina State Wolfpack two weekends ago.

In the D.C. area, there has been a nice surprise. Despite youth at a few key spots, the Maryland Terrapins are leading the Atlantic Division with an undefeated record in-conference. With the upcoming schedule lining up well for the Terrapins, there's a good chance they could play the Clemson Tigers on Nov. 10 still atop the standings.

The Virginia Tech Hokies were supposed to be one of the best teams in the country, but that hasn't materialized. Frank Beamer and co. are respectable but will need to get on a roll to make something of this campaign.

The Virginia Cavaliers have had no consistency out of their quarterbacks, leading to a rough year. Virginia and the Boston College Eagles are the only two teams without a conference win to this point.

Here are the standings for both divisions:

Atlantic

  1. Maryland (2-0) 4-2
  2. Florida St. (3-1) 6-1
  3. Clemson (2-1) 5-1
  4. N.C. State (1-1) 4-2
  5. Wake Forest (1-3) 3-3
  6. Boston Coll. (0-3) 1-5

Coastal

  1. Miami (3-1) 4-3
  2. Duke (2-1) 5-2
  3. North Carolina (2-1) 5-2
  4. VA Tech (2-1) 4-3
  5. Georgia Tech (1-3) 2-4
  6. Virginia (0-3) 2-5
