Maryland freshman WR Stefon Diggs draws rave reviews

Mitch Stringer-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Only four games into his collegiate career, Maryland Terrapins freshman wide receiver Stefon Diggs is already making a name for himself. The five-star product from Good Counsel High School is making an impact as a wide receiver and kick returner, and is leading the Atlantic Coast Conference in several categories, according to the Associated Press.

He ranks second in the Atlantic Coast Conference with 160½ all-purpose yards per game and leads the Terrapins in touchdowns (three) and yards receiving (259).

Diggs's early success has been credited to his ability to quickly learn from his mistakes and the respect he's garnered from his teammates, says head coach Randy Edsall.

"Probably the most impressive thing about Stefon is how he’s handled himself and how he’s been a leader on the field and off the field as well," Edsall said. "You have to be there to really see it. On the sidelines, when the offense isn’t on the field, he’s cheerleading, helping guys along, very upbeat, very positive."

Teammates, including defensive end A.J. Francis, believe Diggs is one of the best players they've ever seen.

That talent is expected to help Diggs be match-up nightmare for Saturday's ACC opponent, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (2-3). Their head coach, Jim Grobe, has admitted that the freshman is Maryland's "home-run hitter" and will be tough to stop in the special teams area.
