Virginia Tech, by and large, had a very good 2012 National Signing Day, but it was tainted a bit by an incident involving assistant coach Charley Wiles and linebacker Jawand Blue, a three-star prospect that changed his commitment to Miami. A report earlier suggested that head coach Frank Beamer berated Blue on the phone for his choice. It later was revealed that Wiles was the Hokies representative involved in the conversation, not Blue.
Nevertheless, Beamer himself couldn't help but taking one more shot at the initial report in his post-signing day press conference.
Beamer on the Blue controversy: "I find it highly unusual that a newspaper would be tweeting a private conversation."— Hokies Journal (@HokiesJournal) February 1, 2012
Beamer added that the Hokies would be looking into the matter. However, speaking of taking shots, Miami coach Al Golden couldn't help himself, saying this in his post-signing day press conference.
Golden refers to V-Tech comments today. "give people enuf rope and They hang themselves."— Jorge Milian (@caneswatch) February 1, 2012
Golden is referring to Wiles allegedly emphasizing Miami's current Nevad Shapiro scandal in his phone conversation with Blue.
