Danny O'Brien Transfers From Maryland Football Program

The rumors starting emerging last week that Danny O'Brien was unhappy at Maryland and was considering transferring, but on Monday it was confirmed by the University that O'Brien will in fact leave the team and will seek to transfer to a new School.

"I’m disappointed by Danny’s decision," Randy Edsall said in a press release sent out to reporters on Monday, "Danny told me that he’s not committed to our program, that he’s not ‘all in.’"

The school also confirmed that offensive tackle Max Garcia and linebacker Mario Rowson are leaving the program

"Max is still homesick," Edsall said of Garcia "He wants to transfer to a school closer to home so his family can see him play." Gracia is a native of Norcross, Ga.

Regarding Rowson, Edsall said "Mario wants to play defensive back. Trouble is, we see Mario as a linebacker."

O'Brien had a very difficult year on the field for the Terps, his lack of production led Randy Edsall and the team to bench him midway through the year. When he did return to the lineup his season ended with a broken arm against Notre Dame. It was widely speculated that O'Brien would transfer after the Season, but when he chose to delay his decision for a few months it was considered a sign that he may elect to stay. That turns out not to be the case.

His departure leaves little depth on the roster at quarterback behind C.J. Brown, who will now be the presumptive starter for next year. It also means that Mike Locksley might have to adjust the offense he was planning on running to accommodate a more mobile quarterback.
