The Maryland Terrapins women's basketball team last faced the Louisville Cardinals in the NCAA tournament in 2009 in the Elite Eight. The Cardinals, coached by former Maryland assistant Jeff Walz, won that game en route to a trip to the Final Four. Coach Brenda Frese has been reminding Terrapin upperclass players about that 77-60 loss as well as last year's disappointing second-round exit to Georgetown as motivation.
The Terrapins got to the second round by defeating Navy 59-44 pushing their winning streak to eight games. The Cardinals won their opening game 67-55 over Michigan State to earn this rematch. The Cardinals are 10-3 in the NCAA tournament under Walz. The winner of this game earns a trip to Raleigh for their sweet sixteen matchup against the winner of Arkansas vs. Texas A&M.
The game is scheduled for a 7:10 p.m. tip off from the Comcast Center in College Park, Md. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and streaming online at ESPN3.com.
