Randy Edsall will roll with a freshman quarterback in Maryland's season opener Sept 1 against William & Mary.

Maryland Terrapins football head coach Randy Edsall on Tuesday named freshman Perry Hills his team's starting quarterback for its season-opening game against William & Mary. The announcement, which came via Twitter, makes Hills only the second freshman in Terrapins' history to open the season as starter.

Hills, a 6'3, 205-pound, three-star prospect out of Pittsburgh, Pa.., beat out fellow freshman Caleb Rowe and sophomore Devin Burns, who were listed at Nos. 2 and 3 on the depth chart. The opportunity for Hills to become Maryland's starter sprung up last week after junior C.J. Brown suffered a season-ending ACL tear.

Brown, who started five games last season for Maryland, was slated as the Terrapins' No. 1 guy coming into summer camp.
