ANIMATED: Robert Griffin III Wears Burgundy And Gold Socks To NFL Draft

In our post below about Robert Griffin III, we noted that we liked the baby blue suit, but not the striped tie that he chose to go with the ensemble.

And then he unveiled the burgundy-and-gold socks, and all of our previous objections just fell away like Oklahoma defenders.

For the record, the socks say "Go Catch Your Dream." We fully expect them to be available at the Redskins' official team store, as well as at various other sporting goods stores around the region for what we're sure will be a very reasonable price.

And here's a still view, via @BryanDFischer:

VIDEO: Robert Griffin III Asks Suzy Kolber What She's Wearing

As you can see, Robert Griffin III is wearing a baby blue suit to tonight's NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall. For our part, we like the shirt, but are not certain about the purple striped tie. Didn't anybody tell Mr. Griffin that you're not supposed to wear a striped tie over a striped shirt?

Anyway, ESPN's Suzy Kolber asked him what he was wearing, and then he asked her what she was wearing. And then they exchanged the names of designers of whom we've never heard. Perhaps they exchanged recipes off camera.

Here's the video, if you're interested in such things.

Sweet mother of God, can we please just get the card turned in so we can spend the foreseeable future over-analyzing Griffin's every utterance, tweak and clothing decision as an official member of the Redskins? Can we get to that part already, please? Because this is starting to get a bit ridiculous.

After over a month of hype, speculation and talk, the NFL Draft finally begins tonight from Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The Washington Redskins will finally make that draft pick that they hope will bring the franchise a top-flight quarterback.

2012 NFL Mock Draft: Robert Griffin III All But Official For Redskins

When the Redskins traded up to the No. 2 spot in the 2012 NFL Draft, they were assured of landing one of the top quarterbacks in this class, either Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III. When the Colts told Andrew Luck that he would be their pick at No. 1, RGIII became the obvious choice. The Redskins have apparently told him as much, and we are just waiting for the coronation on Thursday evening. It's great for Redskins fans, but it could make the first half hour or so of the Draft pretty boring for everyone else. It also made the final 2012 NFL Mock Draft fairly predictable.

The only question here is what kind of socks RG3 will wear on stage.

I'd like to see some burgundy and gold socks, maybe with a logo trim. But then again, Roger Goodell would probably fine him right then and there.

NFL Draft 2012: Ten Late-Round Prospects To Keep An Eye On For The Redskins

We all know what is going to happen on Thursday night. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will come to the microphone, welcome us all to the 2012 NFL Draft, and shortly after that, he will announce that the Indianapolis Colts have taken Andrew Luck. Then, Goodell will follow that up by saying what Washington Redskins fans have been waiting for months to hear:

"And with the second pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins select: Quarterback Robert Griffin III from Baylor University."

The crowd in Ashburn and in Radio City Music Hall will go nuts. Every draft party in the D.C. area will go nuts.

But what will happen on Saturday afternoon? I'm talking about the late round picks that make teams successful. The Redskins have obvious needs along the offensive line, in the secondary, and at middle linebacker, plus there are a number of players at offensive skill positions that I can't wait to see in the NFL. With that in mind, let's look at ten potential targets for rounds four through seven.

Offensive Line:

Center William Vlachos, Alabama

Projection: 7th Round-Free Agent

Scouting Report: Vlachos anchored two BCS national championship teams while at Alabama (2010 and 2012) and also paved the way for two All-American running backs, including one Heisman Trophy winner (Mark Ingram), and another Finalist (Trent Richardson). Went to the Senior Bowl and was completely out-of-shape.

Offensive Guard Rokevious Watkins, South Carolina

Projection: 6th-7th Round

Scouting Report: Watkins was the bulldozer who led the way for a potential Heisman candidate in running back Marcus Lattimore, whose season was scuppered by an injury. Watkins was selected as a first-team all-SEC player by the AP. He's literally a huge prospect at 338 pounds, so weight -- or the ability to control it -- may be a concern.

Offensive Tackle Josh Oglesby, Wisconsin

Projection: 5th-7th Round

Scouting Report: Oglesby was a consensus first-team All-Big Ten performer at right tackle for the Badgers. He protected the right side of QB Russell Wilson, and led the way for RB Montee Ball. Does have injury concerns.

Offensive Tackle/Guard Nate Potter, Boise State

Projection: 5th-6th Round

Scouting Report: Potter was a consensus top-five tackle in the draft, and was a potential first-round pick before this past season. His stock dropped throughout the year, but still was named to first-team All-Mountain West. Could be a late-round steal.

Offensive Guard Senio Kelemete, Washington

Projection: 4th-6th Round

Scouting Report: Kelemete started at left tackle for the Huskies, but projects as more of a Guard in the NFL. Known for his quick feet, he improved all his numbers from the combine to his pro day. Inexperience at Guard -- he started as a defensive lineman in college before transitioning to Left Tackle -- is what's holding back his draft stock.

Defensive Backs:

Cornerback Cliff Harris, Oregon

Projection: 6th Round-Free Agent

Scouting Report: Harris is a very talented cornerback and return man who has tumbled down draft boards. He had six interceptions and returned four punts for touchdowns in 2010, but off-the-field troubles killed most of his 2011 campaign. Most famously, an officer asked Harris "Where is the marijuana?" during a traffic stop -- one of many Harris underwent while at Oregon. Harris' famous reply was, "We smoked it all."

Free Safety Janzen Jackson, McNeese State

Projection: 5th-7th Round

Scouting Report: Jackson was dismissed from Tennessee, but not before being named a Second-Team All-SEC Safety as a sophomore in 2010. Jackson is a ball-hawk, as evidenced by his five interceptions as a sophomore at Tennessee, but he didn't stand out at FCS-level McNeese State (finished with just two interceptions in 2011).

Middle Linebackers:

Inside Linebacker Vontaze Burfict, Arizona State

Projection: 4th Round-Undrafted

Scouting Report: Burfict is the definition of a mystery. He was unmotivated and overweight last year, as well as a giant headache off-the-field. However, the talent is there. He was a top-15 pick late into the season, but has seen his stock plummet since the season ended.

Inside Linebacker Tank Carder, TCU

Projection: 4th-5th Round

Scouting Report: A deceptive athlete, and an unquestioned leader. The two-time defending Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year has been severely underrated during this draft process. Returned both of his interceptions this year for touchdowns.

Wide Reciever:

Wide Receiver Tommy Streeter, Miami (Fl.)

Projection: 5th Round

Scouting Report: Streeter has a rare combination of size and speed. At 6'5" and 215 lbs, Streeter ran a 4.4 40-yard dash, but he's not just a combine freak. Streeter led the ACC in yards-per-catch at 17.6, and his eight touchdown receptions were fourth in the ACC. He did all this while dealing with instability at the quarterback position in Coral Gables for all of last season. He's the type of big-play receiver the Redskins have been lacking.

The Redskins need to find players in late rounds to help build depth. Obviously, they won't expect every player to make the roster, like in 2011, but a gem or two could be out there.

Robert Griffin III: 'As Of Thursday, Me And Andrew [Luck] Are Two Of The Worst Quarterbacks In The NFL'

Now that all the suspense has been taken out of the 2012 NFL Draft, most of the intrepid local reporters who are up in New York City for the three-day extravaganza have been reduced to following Robert Griffin III around like ducklings following their mother.

Their movements haven't been in vain, however, as Baylor's Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback has produced some noteworthy musings, the latest coming to us via Rich Campbell of the Washington Times.

<a href="<blockquote%20class=%22twitter-tweet%22>
RG3:%20%22As%20of%20Thursday%20at%20probably%208%20and%208:10,%20me%20and%20Andrew%20%5BLuck%5D%20are%20two%20of%20the%20worst%20quarterbacks%20in%20the%20NFL.%22%20<a%20href=%22https://twitter.com/search/%2523Redskins%22>#Redskins
%E2%80%94%20Rich%20Campbell%20(@Rich_Campbell)%20<a%20href=%22https://twitter.com/Rich_Campbell/status/195232856027578368%22%20data-datetime=%222012-04-25T19:28:34+00:00%22>April%2025,%202012
%20"'>

RG3: "As of Thursday at probably 8 and 8:10, me and Andrew [Luck] are two of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL." #Redskins

— Rich Campbell (@Rich_Campbell) April 25, 2012

I'm afraid that we will only be accepting John Beck jokes in response to this post. We would have accepted Rex Grossman jokes, but if you recall the news from yesterday, Griffin already thinks that Grossman is the No. 1quarterback in Washington whom he has to overcome. Remarkable, isn't it?

NFL Draft 2012: Mike Shanahan Speaks Glowingly About Likely Draft Pick Robert Griffin III

ASHBURN - Mike Shanahan met with the media Wednesday for his pre-draft press conference. With the Redskins picking at number two, there's little uncertainty as to who they will select, Shanahan spoke glowingly about the team's future draft pick, Robert Griffin III.

Here's a transcript of what Shanahan had to say about his future quarterback:

On what he likes about Griffin:

"Really, everything. I just like the way he handles himself. He finished college in three and half years. He's an overachiever as a person. He's got great parents. His work ethic is off the charts. I love the way he handles himself. Then there are the football aspects. He's got great speed, he's does a great job in the pocket. [When] throwing the ball down-field, he's a guy that doesn't look at the rush. He's got all the attributes that you look for in a quarterback. I'm going to be very happy if he's on our football team."

"Nothing's 100 percent yet, so I gotta say 99.9 right now."

On what a franchise QB can do for an organization:

"I think when you're talking about a franchise quarterback, obviously that guy has got to go out there and do it. And one guy doesn't do it, you got to have a supporting cast. I think we've made some strides over the last couple years of putting that type of team together, where you do bring a quarterback in and hopefully he has the weapons to give him a chance to be successful. We all know it doesn't happen overnight, there are some growing pains that go with the position. But the better your defense is, or the better your offense may be, obviously the less pressure you have to put on the quarterback. When you're talking about a franchise quarterback, you're looking at a guy that really has all the physical and mental attributes that you're looking for in a quarterback, and now he's got to go out and do it on the field. "

On having to play him early:

"You want to make sure that he's ready to play. So you gotta go through the process. You just don't want to throw a guy in there right away until he feels comfortable. And it's a growing process, it doesn't happen right away. Obviously when you give up a couple of firsts and a second, you want that guy to get in there as quick as possible. But you want to do it at the right time and make sure he's ready, and [gives] you the best chance to help you win."

On his supporting cast:

"We're a younger football team. We'll be more competitive. We've got a plan that I think is taking shape, and part of it is finishing this offseason with free agency - it's not done yet - as well as the draft. We're looking forward to that. We've spent a lot of time here over the last couple months to get into position to get what we consider a franchise pick no matter what at the number two position. We made that decision early, and we were able to orchestrate that on the first chance you get to trade. Obviously the rest [of the team-building] is getting a good draft like we had last year. "

On selecting a potential franchise QB in the draft:

"I think everybody would like that franchise guy. That's the goal of every team in the National Football League. How you become a franchise guy is you got to go out there and do it on the field. The first thing you look for are the characteristics or the attributes that give you a chance to be that guy. We feel that Robert does have all those qualities...And that's what you're looking for. You're looking for a guy that from a character standpoint will be the first guy there and the last guy to leave...We believe Robert is that type of guy. I'm looking forward to spending time with him, and doing the things you do to get a quarterback ready to play"

On how the organization fell in love with Griffin:

"You want a guy that wants to be the best about what he does. That's what excited us is to see his commitment both on the football field and [in] the classroom. To be around his parents, to be around his girlfriend, to see him handle himself in all different types of situations [we saw] a guy that we feel fits in great with this organization. [He's] a guy that we want to develop to be the face of the organization. He knows there is a lot of work, there's a lot of pressure that goes with it. We understand that as well, but we're looking forward to it.
