Taivon Jacobs Selects Ohio State Over Maryland

The Maryland Terrapins missed out on a home grown prospect for their team. Wide reciever Taivon Jacobs, a graduate of Suitland High School committed to the Ohio St. Buckeyes, according to a tweet by Jakob Engleke of Inside Maryland Sports.

Taivon Jacobs has committed to Ohio State, IMS has learned. Picked OSU over #Terps and West Virginia.

— Jakob Engelke (@Jakob_Engelke) July 19, 2012

Jacobs, measuring in at 5'10" and 165 pounds was clocked as having a 4.47 40-yard dash and a 34-inch vertical leap. It is more than likely that the prospect of playing for head coach Urban Meyer was too big an opportunity for the receiver to pass up. The Terrapins hopefully can get past this disappointment and still get a strong recruiting class for 2013.

Maryland Recruiting: Three-Star Quarterback/Safety Commits

Milan Collins, a 6-foot-2 quarterback from Bishop McNamara High School, has committed to Maryland over Boston College, Syracuse and West Virginia, among other programs, according to InsideMDSports.com.

The Forestville, Md., is listed as a three-star by Yahoo! Sports' Rivals.com, as well as 247Sports.com. He also plays safety, and as of a month ago, was expected to play on the defensive side for the Terps but that still could change.

Collins is the Terrapins' 11th commit for the class of 2013 and the seventh in the last two weeks. He is currently listed as the No. 28 dual-threat quarterback and No. 22 player in the state, per 247Sports. And via Rivals, his 40-yard dash time stood at 4.53 seconds.

Maryland Recruiting: Terps Pick Up All-Purpose Back Richy Anderson

The Maryland Terrapins picked up their 10th verbal commit for their 2013 class when Frederick, Md., all-purpose back Richy Anderson chose Maryland. Anderson is yet another local player to have selected the Terps, and he chose Maryland over having offers from East Carolina, Boston College, Wake Forest, Rutgers and Temple.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Anderson spent time as a running back and wide receiver during his junior year and earned 1,500 yards of total offense and 12 total touchdowns while helping lead his high school team to the Maryland 3A championship game.

According to Rivals, Anderson is a three-star recruit and is rates as the No. 20 all-purpose back and the 22nd best player in the state of Maryland. Anderson said he chose Maryland because he feels that with the local talent that has already committed, there is a chance to build something great:

"With all the local guys they've brought in, there's a chance to build something real special here. I feel like the talent in this state is underrated on a national level, but we're going to show everyone that if we [Marylanders] all stick together we can compete with anyone. I'm ready to compete for a national championship at Maryland."

Maryland Football Recruiting: Devin Butler Picks Notre Dame

Maryland head coach Randy Edsall has generally had good luck in keeping local recruits close to home. But he lost out on a good local prospect when Gonzaga defensive back Devin Butler announced on Twitter that he had committed to Notre Dame.

<a href="<blockquote%20class=%22twitter-tweet%22>
I'M%20COMMITTED%20TO%20THE%20UNIVERSITY%20OF%20NOTRE%20DAME!!!!%20<a%20href=%22https://twitter.com/search/%2523GOIRISH%22>#GOIRISH
%E2%80%94%20Devin%20Butler%20(@Devin7_Era)%20<a%20href=%22https://twitter.com/Devin7_Era/status/187539795742953472%22%20data-datetime=%222012-04-04T13:59:06+00:00%22>April%204,%202012
%20"'>

I'M COMMITTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME!!!! #GOIRISH

— Devin Butler (@Devin7_Era) April 4, 2012

And the folks at SB Nation's Notre Dame blog, One Foot Down, are happy to have him if this report is any guide.

Devin definitely has some room to add weight, and I think he would probably need to get up to around 200 lbs to be fully effective at the CB spot on the Irish defense. He shows great anticipation and change of direction in coverage, especially in zone. He is a physical presence against the run, which is a big asset for CBs in this scheme.

One thing I think he needs to work on is wrapping the ball carrier up. I saw too many shoulder tackles on his highlight film. Other than that, he is a very dynamic player on the field and should have a very productive career in South Bend.

For more on the Maryland Terrapins, check out Testudo Times.
Maryland Recruiting 2012: Devin Butler To Announce College Choice Wednesday

Maryland Terrapins fans better take notice of the young man from Gonzaga College High School in the District on Wednesday. Defensive back Devin Butler will make his choice of where to attend and the list of schools include Maryland, Penn State, Michigan, Notre Dame and Northwestern.

Butler has said that distance will not drive his decision to choose a school after he and his parents rented a car to make a Midwestern trip

I loved all the places [on the trip] really. They were all great - coaches were great, players were great campuses were great. I loved them all.

Butler received 21 scholarship offers this offseason, so there was no shortage of choices on which school to go to. Butler started at cornerback for Gonzaga last season and intercepted seven passes, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

Michael Parker Commits To Maryland Football

While the Randy Edsall era in College Park has made recruiting news for all the wrong reasons in recent months, they received a solid pick-up for the class of 2013 when Mike Parker, a four-star rated athlete by Rivals from Nokesville, Virginia (Kettle Run High School), committed to the Terps on Twitter Tuesday evening:

Thank you to everyone who has helped me out. Through a painful process. I've decided to become apart of the Maryland football team in 2014!

Parker is a 6-foot-3, 205-lb. corner and wideout rated as the fifth-best overall "athlete position" by Rivals, and the 114th-best overall prospect in the 2013 signing class. Per Rivals, Parker had offers from Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Boston College and Stanford, among others. The Terps already have one commitment, from three-star defensive back Jarrett Ross.
