2012 Players Championship Final Leaderboard: Matt Kuchar Fights Off Competition For Win

Despite a number of golfers making charges on the final day of the 2012 Players Championship, 33-year-old Matt Kuchar was able to take home the 2012 Players Championship Title at TPC Sawgrass with a score of 13-under par.

Entering the day one stroke behind then leader Kevin Na, Kuchar took advantage of a rough start by Na to gain control of the lead. It was not without a fight, however, as Martin Laird was able to get into the race with a round of five-under. He would come up short, finishing tied for second with Rickie Fowler, Zach Johnson and Ben Curtis for second place at two-under.

This is the fourth career win for the journeyman Kuchar and his first since The Barclays in 2010.

Kuchar holds a one shot lead over Martin Laird, who has torn up the TPC Sawgrass course on Sunday, currently shooting five-under for the day through 14 holes.

Kevin Na, the leader entering the final round, has struggled and now stands three shots off the lead. Na has bogeyed four of his last six holes.

Tiger Woods overcame a disastrous front nine on Sunday to shoot a one-over par round of 73 for the day and finish one-under overall for the tournament. David Toms and Bob Estes both posted stellar seven-under rounds of 65 on Sunday.

The fourth and final round of the 2012 Players Championship is under way, with the field chasing Americans Kevin Na and Matt Kuchar. Na is the overall tournament leader, sitting at 12-under par after a round of 68 on Saturday. Kuchar sits just one shot back at 11-under par. The two will be the last to tee off at TPC Sawgrass on Sunday, hitting the first tee at 2:45 p.m. ET.

Rickie Fowler sits just three shots back after a round of 66 on Saturday. Zach Johnson and Ben Curtis are within striking distance, both five shots back at seven-under par for the tournament.

No golfer in the field has made much noise on Sunday morning, with the best performance so far actually coming from American George McNeil, who is three-under for the day through 14 holes. McNeil is looking to rebound from an atrocious round of 82 on Saturday.

Heading into the final round of The Players Championship on Sunday, Kevin Na holds a one shot lead over Matt Kuchar at 12-under at the TPC Sawgrass. Na finished with a score of 68 during the third round on Saturday, preserving that one-shot lead over Kuchar who finished at 69.

Moving down the leaderboard, Rickie Fowler, who notched his first PGA Tour win last week at Quail Hollow, is currently in third place, three back of the lead at 9-under, while Ben Curtis and Zach Johnson are close behind, tied for fourth at 7-under. Subsequently, Jhonattan Vegas, Brian Davis, Jonathan Byrd and Martin Laird are all tied for sixth at 6-under.

VIDEO: Harris English Hits Volunteer On First Tee Shot At TPC Sawgrass

Harris English is a rookie on the PGA Tour, with a win on the Nationwide Tour as an amateur to his credit. English had been playing well in the first two rounds of the 2012 Players Championship, entering Saturday's final round at seven-under par for the tournament, just one shot off the lead. Then Harris English stepped to the first tee box and drove one like I do on the weekend. His tee shot on hole one smacked a volunteer right in the head. Since the volunteer is OK, you can laugh and enjoy the video after the jump, even though the poor guy looks to be in rough shape initially.

This tee shot was the start of a rough day for Harris, as he has bogeyed the first hole, carded a triple-bogey on the second hole and added in a double-bogey on the fifth hole for good measure. Harris is six-over for the day, and now 10 shots off the lead.

The Players Championship 2012: Rickie Fowler Shoots Six-Under Round Of 66 On Saturday

The third round of the 2012 Players Championship is winding down Saturday, and there is a new name in the mix atop the leaderboard. Rickie Fowler shot a six-under round of 66, and is now tied tied for second place at nine-under par.

Matt Kuchar, one of three co-leaders entering the third round along with Zach Johnson and Kevin Na, is two-under for the day and currently leads the tournament at 10-under par. Na is one-under on Saturday and is tied with Fowler, one shot back of Kuchar. Johnson is one-over so far in the third round, and is now three shots off the lead.

Tiger Woods shot an even par 72 on Saturday, and is two-under for the tournament. American George McNeil had a horrific showing at TPC Sawgrass in the third round, carding a ten-over par 82.

The Players Championship 2012: American Golfer Cameron Trinagle Implodes In Round Three

Cameron Trinagle started round two of The Players Championship at one under par, but round three of the tournament was less than kind to the golfer from Las Vegas.

Trinagle shot a 77 on the day, finishing his 18 holes shooting five over par.

The three year pro started his first three holes with two birdies and a par, but over his next five holes went bogey, double-bogey, par, double-bogey, bogey in that order while making par on just three holes on the front nine.

The back nine was a little better for Trinagle as he bogeyed three holes, connected on two birdies and made par on the other four holes. He will most likely not make the cut going into Sunday's final round.
