Webb Simpson pulled off a stunner on Sunday, sweeping through the fourth round of play with a 68 that helped push him to the winner's circle. On top of the attention that comes with a dramatic win, Simpson also finds himself considerably wealthier on Monday morning. His prize money for winning the 2012 U.S. Open is $1.44 million.

Second-place finishers Michael Thompson and Graeme McDowell earned $695,916 for their efforts. The five players that finished in third place, with a 3-over, each took home more than $276,000.

The top 20 finishers from the U.S. Open all took home at least $100,000 for their performance on the notoriously difficult course at the Olympic Club last weekend.

2012 U.S. Open: Webb Simpson Wins His First Major

Webb Simpson was an afterthought headed into the fourth round of the 2012 U.S. Open on Sunday at The Olympic Club, but by day's end, everyone would know his name as he won the open shooting a final round of 68.

Simpson also shot a 68 on Saturday in round three after registering a 72 and 73 on day's one and two of the tournament, respectively.

Simpson was able to catch leaders Jim Furyk and Graeme McDowell who had both won the open previously. McDowell ended up shooting a 73 on the day and Furyk a 74.

Simpson bogeyed just two holes on Sunday and birdied four, including three consecutive on the sixth, seventh and eighth holes.

Tiger Woods came stumbling out of the gate Sunday at the 2012 U.S. Open at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, California.

Woods began his round with bogeys on the first two holes before double bogeying hole three. After a par at hole four, he then bogeyed holes five and six to drop to a tourney high nine-over par score before birding hole seven. He is still nine strokes back of the leader.

Jim Furyk holds the lead to himself at minus-one through three holes. Graeme McDowell fell from minus-one to even par after a bogey on hole three. The final group is about to begin hole four.

U.S. Open 2012 Leaderboard: Amateur Beau Hossler Captivates Fans With Impressive Run

As always, there are great stories that come from events such as the U.S. Open. One of the best to come from The Olympic Club this weekend has been the emergence of 17-year-old amateur Beau Hossler.

After leading for a short time on Friday, the braces-wearing teenager has hung around in contention after shooting even par on Saturday and enters the final day of competition four strokes off the lead and ahead of legendary players such as Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.

His run has been fun to watch for all involved including his caddy, Bill Schellenberg who described what the weekend has been like for him to the USA Today.

"He has really good resolve. The kid doesn't quit. It's just awesome," Schellenberg said. "He has an unbelievable ability to get upset, get it out and get it over with and get onto the next shot. I don't know what it looked like, but he and I were having a grand time."

Hossler is looking to become the third different amateur to win the U.S. Open. He tees off for his final round at approximately 5:20 p.m. ET.

With three rounds in the books at the 2012 U.S. Open, Graeme McDowell and Jim Furyk sit atop the leaderboard at The Olmypic Club. McDowell shot a 2-under par 68 on Saturday to move to 1-under for the tournament, with Furyk grinding out an even par 70 to tie McDowell entering Sunday's final round. Swede Frederik Jacobson is two shots back of the leaders at 1-over par.

Tiger Woods had a horrendous moving day, shooting a 5-over par round of 75. Woods bogeyed four of his first eight holes on Saturday, ending with six total bogeys int he round and just one birdie.

Tiger Woods entered Saturday in a three-way tie for first place. He left tied for 14th after finishing 5-over par, bogeying two of his final three holes and falling, in some ways, out of contention at the U.S. Open in San Francisco.

As Woods failed to maintain his place atop the leaderboard, Jim Furky and Graeme McDowell, the tournament's 2010 winner, too advantage shooting 68 and 70, respectively, to main a two-stroke lead at 1-under par through three rounds. Coming in at third was Fredrik Jacobson, who also shot a 68 on Saturday at the difficult course at The Olympic Club.
