Bradley Beal Helps Lead The Wizards To 3-2 In Summer League Play

Bradley Beal was usually the most consistent player on his squad when the Washington Wizards' summer league unit took the floor in Las Veags. According to the Washington Post, Beal, the Wizards' first round draft pick from the University of Florida, put up per game averages of 17.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists and helped lead Washington to 3-2 record in its five summer league outings:

Beal scored at least 20 points twice, grabbed at least six rebounds three times and handed out four assists once. His performance was more steady than spectacular. Beal wasn't too pleased with his shooting from the floor (41.8 percent) or from beyond the three-point line (30 percent), but he also wants to get better.

NBA Summer League, Wizards Vs. Bucks: Washington Edges Milwaukee 78-75

The Washington Wizards grabbed their third win of the Summer League session on Wednesday, topping the Milwaukee Bucks by a final score of 78-75 at Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas. It also marked their second consecutive victory, improving them to 3-2 overall since opening play last Friday.

Milwaukee forwards Tobias Harris and John Henson made things difficult for the Wizards, especially early, as they combined for a total of 44 points and 21 rebounds. But Washington, which saw four of its own starters in double figures, outscored Milwaukee 41-26 over the final period en route to a narrow three-point win.

Bradley Beal was the primary contributor for the Wizards, as he finished with 18 points, six rebounds and one assist.

The contest concluded the Wizards' five-game Summer League schedule.

Jan Vesely Injury: Wizards Forward Leaves Summer League Game After Rolling Ankle

Washington Wizards forward Jan Vesely has been sidelined after rolling his ankle during the first quarter of the team's Summer League game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday at Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas. He will miss the remainder of the contest, per the team's official Twitter account.

The injury occurred on a drive to the basket less than two minutes following tip-off. He reportedly left the game for precautionary reasons.

In four games, including four starts, with the Wizards this summer, the 6-foot-11 forward has averaged 9.3 points and and 6.8 rebounds per contest, while playing an average of 29 minutes each game. Over that span, the Wizards have posted an overall mark of 2-2, including Tuesday's 83-77 win over the Memphis Grizzlies.

NBA Summer League, Wizards Vs. Grizzlies: Bradley Beal Struggles In Washington Win

The Washington Wizards picked up an 83-77 win over the Memphis Grizzlies in the Las Vegas Summer League on Tuesday night. But the Wizards received most of their contributions from peripheral players who aren't likely to make the roster, and rookie Bradley Beal struggled a bit. Beal had his worst outing of the week in Vegas, struggling from the field and hitting just five of 15 shots. The rookie from Florida also struggled a bit checking second-year guard Josh Selby, who dominated the ball and went off for 35 points.

Two other NBA players on the roster, Chris Singleton and Shelvin Mack, were also unimpressive. Mack went three of nine from the floor and forced the action at times, turning it over five times. Singleton finished with a double-double but was just three of 12 from the field. Jan Vesely, however, grabbed 12 boards and looked improved on the defensive end.

The top performer for Washington was journeyman Shavlik Randolph, who scored 16 points and grabbed 15 boards. The Wizards will now come back on Wednesday and play the first game of the day against the Bucks at 4 p.m. ET.

Earlier today, we poked a little fun at Chris Singleton's pink sneakers with an assist from Wizards point guard John Wall, who referred to them, slightly undiplomatically, as "cancer shoes." (Note: we don't think Wall meant to take the mickey out of cancer patients, but we can't help but think of Kevin Garnett's encounter with Charlie Villanueva from a couple seasons back.)

Anyway, Singleton got a bit of his own back in Sunday night's game against the NBA D-League Select team. Videois below the jump, so let's watch and enjoy, shall we?

Washington Wizards Rookie Bradley Beal A 'Coach's Dream'

The marriage of Bradley Beal and the Washington Wizards was in the offing week ahead of the 2012 NBA Draft. Both sides made it official last week with the first-round pick signing a rookie contract. Mike Prada of SB Nation, who spent some time talking with and watching Beal in Las Vegas with the NBA Summer League, called him a "coach's dream" in a Monday feature examining the player's versatility and team-first mindset.

Prada on what makes Beal an important player:

A lot of that is due to what's pretty clear on the surface. At just 19 years old, Beal is mature beyond his years. On the court, he maintains the same, cool demeanor no matter how much he is scoring. Almost nothing rattles him.

Beyond that, he's unselfish, willing to create for his teammates or fade into the background to let them shine. He's mature off the court, taking good care of himself and emerging quickly as a top public speaker in the locker room.

A deeper look, though, reveals just how seamlessly Beal fits into any coach's schemes. He won't always dazzle in the scoring column, and while he stuffs the stat sheet well, there will be plenty of games where his box-score production will seem mediocre.

But coaches don't think like fans. They think about process before results, execution before completion, versatility before production, reliability before upside.

All of that stands to benefit the Wizards. Beal's versatility as a shooter, gives them a player capable of adapting to defenses. His demeanor also earns him the trust and respect of his coaches, something that will allow him to grow and develop as a player who should be an important bridge to a bright future for the Washington Wizards.

The Wizards are in Las Vegas for the NBA's Summer League, which kicked off Friday. One of the players who has had a particularly up-and-down time of it is Chris Singleton. Here's a sampling of our own Mike Prada's notes on him through Washington's first three games.

From Friday: "It was nice to see Singleton be more aggressive driving to the basket and trying to finish. It didn't always work, but he played with more strength in the second half."

From Saturday: "Chris Singleton was active even if his shot wasn't falling."

From Sunday: "Not in love with the way Singleton started the second half. He shut down after a pick and roll offensively when he should have rolled, then threw a bizarre behind-the-back pass in the paint that went out of bounds. He also too often waited to react on the help side defensively until the ball is coming. He should be anticipating the action and cutting it off instead of thinking his athleticism can make up the gap."

It's OK, Chris. There are still two games left for you to make a mark in. And you'd do it in such fabulous shoes, too.

Wizards Vs. D-League Select: Wizards Lose 85-78 After Fading In Second Half

The Washington Wizards summer league team lost to an NBA D-League Select team Sunday night by a final score of 85-78. Despite a slow start the Wizards went in to the locker room up by a score of 37-28, but they faded considerably in the second half. The D-League players outscored the Wizards 54 to 41 in the final two quarters, and that was enough to put away the game.

Though his fourth quarter performance had many questioning his legs and his conditioning, Bradley Beal led the team in scoring with 20 points. Forward Chris Singleton was another bright spot on offense, in particular a monster dunk over Chris Daniels midway through the first quarter. He finished with nine points, eight rebounds and one assist.
